Hawk was being interviewed on MLB Network today. Was a good one. Best sports announcer ever.

He had a great year, but to say you "almost won the Triple Crown", first I think you would have taken two of the categories and just missed on the other one. He was a top ten average guy, but he was 26 points back. And I think he was second or third in homers but about 10 behind Frank Howard.

Stoney, you know who is the greatest I ever saw at stopping someone from getting the triple crown?

1968 Hawk: .275, 35 HR, 109 RBI
1968 Frank Howard: .274, 44 HR, 106 RBI

Only one of these guys claims he "almost won the Triple Crown".

I dont think either can.

Almost won = Finished top 5 in all three categories at the very least

He would have been if he played 162 games against the White Sox every year.

It's funny because I never think of baseball players as being black or white or Latino. It didn't occur to me until you posted that that both of those guys happen to be black Americans. I just think of them as good players who don't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.
