How do we get him? His asking price has to have gone down. Boozer? Maybe Taj? I'm not smart enough to know if its possible.

I've always pushed for him, but I think we are seeing he's much better as a C, than a PF. Not sure he fits with Noah.

Yeah. At this point, if they can't somehow acquire a scoring backcourt player (or at least a SF), I'd rather they just stand pat with what they have.

Unless the Bulls were will to trade Deng (they shouldn't be) they wouldn't have the assets or matching salaries to make it work. If D'Antoni can't find use for Gasol then Boozer would be a bigger problem.

The issue the Lakers have is the same the Bulls would have...you don't start two centers.

I think Gasol would be fine playing PF. He played that role with the Lakers. I don't think the Bulls would have an issue making him and Noah work. Gasol does a lot of what Boozer does but he's arguably the best passing big man in the game and Noah in probably in the top 5 too.

if you can get Gasol, you get him. Teaming him in the high post with Noah in the low post would be a-ok in my book and take some of the scoring load off of Rose when he gets back.

Here's the other problem. We all remember what happened many years ago when the Grizzlies originally traded Pau Gasol to the Lakers in the first place. Bulls' Owner/Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf turned down a chance to get Gasol in large part because he didn't want to pay the luxury tax, and Memphis President Michael Heisley, if I recall, torched Uncle Jerry in the Memphis Commercial-Appeal. That being said, considering the fact these Bulls are already just over the luxury tax, would Gasol's addition put the Bulls much closer to a Championship? That's the ONLY way Uncle Jerry would pay this tax.

Gasol's contract is up after next season. If they could somehow move Boozer for Gasol right now (his stock has absolutely bottomed out in LA, and Boozer is having a good year), I would do it. Deng and Gasol would then be off the books after next season, and the Bulls would have a great deal of money to spend along with the upcoming arrival of Mirotic.

Championship....

I think they could win a championship with Gasol. Thibs is a great regular season coach. It's amazing what he can do with any pieces you give him. I hope that he's learned how to adjust to playoff basketball.

Luol Deng needs to never ever come off the books.

I wouldn't mind having him come back, but his salary needs to come down. I like the dude, but he's overpaid.

cosigned. really, what the bulls need is a 2/3 who's like 6'6" and able to drop 20+ppg / more-than-derrick. especially after the knee injury, for the bulls to go forward towards semi/legitimate contention they need to have a #1 scoring option that isn't derrick rose, and like you said, that'd come from the backcourt or 3.

if luol deng had the ability to handle the ball well enough to create his own shots, which he'd then hit consistently, the bulls would be a much better team. as it is, LOLDENG(tm) is the epitome of the bulls; tries hard, plays defense, can't count on him to create/make a shot when you really need it.

Sini is still right IMU. Take his last sentence and add consistently create/make is own shot and it is spot on.

Thx beni. The origins of the name "LOL DENG" come from watching him get the ball top of the key ~20ft out for an iso. Lulz ensue. His best move, traditionally, is to flail towards the basket and hope to draw enough contact to get a foul. That's great if you're MJ Kobe or Bron Bron and you're in line for your star calls... but when you're LOLDENG it's just like... dude go fix your wrist.

He's never been consistent. I wanna say he shoots like 42-45% perennially? Idk... but when lebron is shooting 56% from the field or something, it goes to show you the difference in your #1 scoring option (sans derrick anyways)

Especially in the NBA, you could do a lot worse than LOLDENG for that $$$... but still, you just wish he could consistently hit jumpers in rhythm. He used to be so good w/the set shot I thought he'd flourish w/derrick and avg 23/+ ppg in a career year. Instead, when derrick came his game changed and be got all pouty and phantom-injured; I never forgot about that.

For his career, he is a 46.3% FG shooter.

His FG% has gone down in recent years because of the 3 point attempts. He never shot many 3's before 2009-2010. The rest of his stats have either stayed consistent (rebounds and steals) or have gone up (FT%, assists) in recent years.

In a world where Elton Brand makes $19M, I'm okay with Lu's $13.3M.

so in other words, I was 1% off of his career average and you agreed with me about his financial situation. notch.

I don't actively dislike Luol or anything, he's just the epitome/mascot of THE TRY HARD BULLS and THE SUPER TRY HARD BULLS(w/derrick). The effort/defense puts a foot in the door to the party, but once you walk through and play that first take theme song to get you all hyped up it's just like... dude, should a fixed your wrist.

OK well, without the stats right in front of me I was obviously a bit off; what I had semi-remembered was his utterly smashing 41.2% from the field last year. Even though his first season of 3pt-enhanced-offense didn't effect his overall FG% (he shot 46% even in 10-11 when he went from attempting 1.2 3pt/game to 4.1) his 3pt % went up from 34.5% in 10/11 to 36.7% in 11/12, even though his overall FG% plummeted from 46.0% to 41.2%. This year he's back "up" to 44.2% from the field even tho his 3pt% is down to a typical dengian 34% (career = 33.7%) SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO with this mess of stats I just dumped here what's the logical conclusion?

That Luol isn't the world's most consistent shooter, which is pretty much what I said in the first place. I mean, sure, I'm guilty of burning out on the Bulls 1/2way through last season and I haven't watched as much as i did in 09/10-10/11, but I'm pretty damn sure I'm seeing the same thing. As we've both noted, yeah, overall you could obviously do much much worse than Luol with the money you're paying him; Eddie Robinson comes to mind. That said, from the countless hours I've spent watching him over the years I just can't really see him ever becoming this dependable scoring option that you can consistently count on down the stretch during big important playoff/games. His jumper befuddles, and he's not exactly what you'd call a dynamic finisher at the hole. He's not technically THE impediment that prevents you from winning championships, however, if you're relying on him to be a #1/2 scoring option on a team then you're not going to win a championship. Ideally you'd have that mysterious unnamed #1 backcourt/scorer, then derrick, then boozer/frontcourt-scorer, THEN you'd turn to LOLDENG and rub one out to a nice solid 17/7 season or whatever it is that he typically gives you.

LOLDENG has been a solid player on teams that are known for their effort, defense, and depth, but have proven time and time again that in the clutch when you NEED a huge basket to stay-in/win a game, shit, did I mention that they're known for their effort, defense, and depth?
