Hall of Fame players are major signings. You have been overruled.

Know your history a little bit. It's obvious you are a little weak in that area. A guy that was up until that time struggling to be a starter and admittingly struggling to hang in the league could hardly constitute a major signing.

Quote:
DALLAS -- Dallas Mavericks free agent guard Steve Nash reached a verbal agreement on Thursday to sign with the Phoenix Suns.

As first reported by ESPN.com's Marc Stein on Thursday afternoon, Nash agreed to a six-year package worth more than $65 million -- with the sixth season partially guaranteed and the Suns holding a team option for the full amount in Year 6.

"It's exciting, but it's also bittersweet," Nash told ESPN.com about the move back to Phoenix. "I'm really sad to leave my teammates, but I'm glad to be going somewhere where they really wanted me."

According to sources, Nash brought the Suns' offer back to the Mavericks, but Mavs owner Mark Cuban declined to match it. Stein reports that the Suns' offer was nearly $20 million richer.

Mavericks sources said Cuban was reluctant to give Nash more than a four-year guaranteed contract because of fears the 30-year-old couldn't physically handle playing more than 32 minutes per game.

"I never dreamed we'd lose Nash, or any other player of his
magnitude," Mavericks coach Don Nelson told The Associated Press on Thursday night in Fort
Worth. "It's not like a trade where you get something back. There is
no adjustment here. We lost a big part of our team and we don't
have anything to fill it. It's a setback."

After giving the Suns a verbal commitment, Nash immediately phoned longtime teammates Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Finley to break the news, sources told ESPN.com. Finley and Nowitzki were given maximum contracts two summers
ago. Nash, who was never offered an extension, opted out of his contract to become a free agent for the first time but maintained that he wanted to remain in Dallas.

"I think it was his intention to stay with the Mavericks," Duffy told the AP about the 30-year-old Nash. "Everything just turned around so quickly.

"Phoenix came up to the plate and put together a very significant offer and we accepted it. The numbers were significant, but it was also the years. It was a five-year deal and that is very significant for someone Steve's age."

No deals can be formally signed until July 14, when the salary cap for next season is set. Teams and free agents can only reach verbal agreements during the league's two-week moratorium on signings and trades.

Nash had met with Cuban in Dallas on Wednesday morning and then was greeted by a traveling Suns delegation that included chairman Jerry Colangelo, son and team president Bryan Colangelo, new owner Robert Sarver, coach Mike D'Antoni, former NBA player and Suns minority owner Steve Kerr, former Suns player and current scout Rex Chapman and forward Amare Stoudemire, a client of Duffy's.

Wednesday, Duffy said, "It was a good meeting [with Cuban]. Mark made it very clear that re-signing Steve is a priority."

The Suns originally drafted Nash in 1996 and he backed up Jason Kidd and Kevin Johnson for two seasons. Nash never sold his home in the Phoenix area.

Bringing in Nash eliminates the Suns from the Kobe Bryant derby. On Wednesday night, it was reported that Phoenix was prepared to offer Bryant a six-year deal worth over $100 million.

The Suns were chasing Nash vs. Kobe. Not exactly someone struggling in the league. Nash was an All Star in 2 of his last 3 seasons with Dallas.

For his Dallas career, he shot 47% with over 14 PPG and 7 APG. 42% 3P shooter and 90% FT.

I was referring to Billups not Nash. Billups was a journey guard when he signed with Detroit. He had been on possibly five teams at that point. I haven't checked Google yet so don't jam me on semantics. My naked eye tells at least five but let me check with the bosses for verification.

There is no way in hell Billups could be considered a major signing. He hadn't even sniffed an all star game yet alone the hall of fame at that point. Unlike you I don't have to check with Google or the bosses for info. verification on this one.

I don't think Chauncey is a Hall of Famer. Do you? I clearly meant Nash. Or at least I thought it was clear.

I thought you meant Chauncey. Chauncey is a marginal hall guy. Nash definitely. The NBA is a little easier than the other leagues so he may sneak in. He is definitely not a sure fire guy.

in the case of Nash he was definitely established but he was not the Nash of the Phoenix yrs. I don't really remember him being considered a game changing signing with Phoenix. He most definitely was a game changing player with them.

The class of 16 is weak though. I don't see many guys that can be considered pieces towards a championship.

I think Paxson's biggest problem as a GM is not his failure to sign big time free agents. It's hard to do that. Look at the problem the Lakers are having.

His biggest problem is that he holds onto to guys too long. He over values guys and once he gets around to trading them they have very little value.

Never got to the finals and was not a max. player at the time he was signed. He was not considered a top ten or even top twenty player when he signed with Phoenix. Doesn't constitute major signing.

He won 2 MVPs and was robbed of a conference title by ABC Bosses.

It wasn't considered a major signing at the time he signed. He was a game changing player in Phoenix. He was good in Dallas nut Hall of Fame good. In Phoenix he took off.

You could easily swap names and you'd have no idea.

Does this statement, which should end in message board infamy, call inot question the validity of IMU as a poster? Should it? or Should be viewed as an aberration, an anomaly if you will?.

Will be ostracized as one who has "horrible thoughts" or will he be granted message board immunity?

Holler if you hear me!

Bobby Portis can't even get on the court.

Tyrus has had an infinitely better career so far.

Get outta here, joker.

Weak. Lame. Typical. Not going to be able to shift the debate to which person has had a better career, particularly after Portis has only been involved in 2 games. If Portis doesn't transform into Tyrus Thomas by sundown, you should be strung up by piano wire for providing the fine people of this message board with analysis that couldn't be any more off base. You also tried to sell it when it was obvious that you were wrong. Now you are trying to spin it into which person has had the better of the two careers. Not.Going.To.Happen.
