The last play in regulation was bad bad bad. Rose held on to the ball too long looking for a pick. Ben Gordon practically ran into Rose looking for the ball. Rose drove and had to take a challenged 18 footer because he didn't start his move until 5 seconds left on the clock (despite having it the final 20 seconds)

Did they get any defensive stops in the OT?

This is what aggravates me about the last second shot in the NBA, and it is now moving to the college game. The last posession is always handled by one man and it never leaves his hands. The player will stand around until there is 3-5 seconds left and then just pull up for a long contested jumper, which usually doesn't fall. How about running a play with some ball movement? or driving to the basket and kicking it out to the open man? I never see either of those things happen. Is this the coach's decision, or just selfish play?

Coach's decision, not selfish play. The whole point of holding the ball until the final seconds is so that if you make a shot, the other team won't have a chance of answering.

Think about it. If I make a shot with 5.5 seconds left, that's plenty of time for the other team to get a decent shot. But if I score with only 0.4 seconds left, the other team won't have a chance at a good shot.

If you're running a play with a lot of ball movement in the final seconds, you're increasing the odds of committing a turnover and allowing the other team to get possession. So you hold the ball and make sure you're the last one to take a shot. It has nothing to do with selfishness.

Agreed on the logic, but I would love to see the Bulls be able to get off a better shot in that situation. I'd settle for less confusion.

I'd rather see Noah come running to the 'L' with 8 on the clock, set a pick for Rose to free him a bit or have a chance to kick out for a shot from Noce or Gordon. The play that was run was nothing more than a street ball play.

I agree with what you are saying. I know you want to get that final shot and not give the other team an opportunity to call a timeout to setup another play. But just standing at the top of the key and holding the ball until there is five seconds left and just stepping up for a long jumper with a defender in your face is not a smart last second shot. The only players in this league I would want doing that are Kobe or Lebron. Driving to the basket and drawing contact to get to the line or kicking the ball out to an open man has a much better chance of success.

That's what it looked like. I honestly don't believe anyone knew what the play was but Rose. He looked down at Noah like he was supposed to set a pick. Noah appeared to be getting reading to do it but there was 3 seconds on the clock and Rose had to get moving. Terrible coaching IMO.

Most of the Bulls' "plays" look like street ball now. Even the screens they run for Gordon, which used to look so sharp and pretty under Skiles, seem sloppy and labored now. The Bulls lack talent, but the coaching is absolutely horrible.

Spanky, I think they're talking about the standby Unit Level Logistics System, the B-ULLS.

No help for Derrick Rose on that last tough shot, and Joakim Noah was just standing there when he could've helped the kid out at the end of regulation for starters. In overtime, Luol Deng & Aaron Gray each could've tipped 2 close shots right at the basket and they both went around & out! This was a game they should've won, especially after Minnesota went the first 7 minutes without a field goal, and the Bulls could've blown these guys out early! If last night was any indication, this could be the beginning of a frustrating 7 game road trip out West & possibly an 11-game losing streak when they come home.

As bad as they are, the Clippers are horrible, and worse. They should be able to win that game.

BD, the Oklahoma City Thunder had the NBA's worst record going into the U.C. 2 weeks ago and the Bulls lost in overtime. Nothing can be taken for granted, even against the Clippers...I'm sure Billy Crystal & Penny Marshall can't wait to see the game Wednesday night at STAPLES Center.

Oklahoma City has some talent though. The Clippers have been playing without most of their starting 5 of late. That lineup they are using is pretty horrible.

Yeah, and the last play of the game was every bit as bad. Rose pulls up his dribble a couple feet from the basket, and spins around to find all his teammates standing stationary, all guarded.

Watching last night, I commented on several occasions on how all the players just stand around when they don't have the ball. They do that all the time. This team is abominable.

Yup.

That was another thing I mentioned watching them last nigh (and in the past): I have never seen a collection of basketball players who are so bad at tip-ins. A tip-in attempt is converted by a Bull like one in every 3 times, tops.
