Yahoo Sports is saying that Nash is the only guy the Suns wont trade. Amare will be a FA in '10. The Suns will be looking to make moves, the window has closed. Any reason the Bulls shouldn't be serious contenders? I know all the financial shit is a bitch and I can't figure it out, but giving up Deng, Gordon, Thomas, Kirk and a future first rounder. Is that to much? Not enough? Not possible or worth it? What say you?

If you remember what happened when Tim Floyd took over this train wreck of a franchise right after the Bulls broke up the team that won 6 NBA Championships in the '90s, the Bulls got as bad as this team, if not worse. Where I'm going with this is that the Bulls were hoping to clear a great deal of salary cap space in hopes to become a serious player in free agency, and ex-GM Jerry Krause couldn't get any big name free agents other than a stiff named Ron Mercer. Guys like Tracy McGrady, Grant Hill & even Tim Thomas wanted nothing to do with Chicago back then... That was 2000, Bulls' fans, and I don't want a replay of it come 2010. As much as Bulls' fans would like to get Amare Stoudemire, Chris Bosh and/or Dwyane Wade, these guys may use the Bulls as leverage if the team continues to stink as bad as the teams Floyd coached about a decade ago. GM John Paxson cleaned up a great deal of the mess when he replaced Krause. He needs to clean it up again and admit he's no Joe Dumars.

The Suns can have any combination of players that they want from our team.

Drew Gooden's expiring contract, Kirk Hinrich, 1st round pick, Tyrus Thomas, Jakeem Noah.....

Most trades in the NBA aren't made talent for talent so that's what we have working for us.....Unfortunatlely, I'm sure other teams can offer better talent.

Amare and Rose would be great. But I don't see it happening, so I refuse to get my hopes up.

That's the best approach to take.

I don't see how "Amare and Rose" is a matchup. I guess if you mean "two really talented guys" but it's not like they'd have anything to do with each other on the court. Maybe I'm missing something.

I do think you'd be giving up too much and I doubt the team could keep him next year unless a lottery pick is coming to the team (likely?). I wouldn't have a problem giving up Gooden, Hinrich, and Noah, but I don't think the money/roster space would work in such a deal. Thomas, Deng, and Gordon aren't going anywhere unless the team is guaranteed a lottery pick, and even then, I don't know enough about college ball to know who's going to be available in the draft that would make replacing any of those guys with a rookie a reasonable proposition.

Good point. Why would Stoudemire stick around if his contract's expiring if the Bulls can't offer another lottery pick coming to the team, though? I guess that's my biggest concern - the transaction itself would be worth it, but keeping him here is another thing.

To make the Amare trade work from a salary perspective, it would have to be something like

Amare and Matt Barnes for Kirk, Gooden and Simmons.

He'd have to agree to a contract extension if the Bulls were to trade for him, I'd assume.

In the current economy, do you think Amare gets the same money that he got in the past? He's at 15M now. If he opts out in 2010, does he get more than 15 a year? Who gets more Amare or Bosh? I think Amare is the in 'A-' list of free agents for that year.

If he opts out, and signs with another team, he'd be taking a pay cut because the Suns can may him more than other teams - it would still be max money, but the Suns can offer more, and I believe this is in the percentage raises per season that he would get. His best option, financially, is to leave via a sign and trade (or stay with the Suns long-term).

If he opts out in 2010, the recession will be over by then as well. Even if the economy is treading water then, the best players will still get their money, it's the average players that will see the shorer-term deals for less money.

That's what I meant BD. Thanks for clearing it up for me. I was thinking if he really was the best bet for 2010 opt out.

Barnes has complained about playing time recently. And if the Bulls had him, my GF would be into going to more games.

Hanley actually made a good point this morning. If the Bulls wouldn't be a player in the 2010 sweepstakes, this could be their 2010 move two years ahead.

I havent heard anyone say that this trade makes the Bulls a championship team. You would be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't think this is a step in the right direction and that it would make them better...

If I'm Bulls' GM John Paxson, I get the green light from Uncle Jerry and make this trade tonight for Amar'e Stoudemire, and send the likes of Tyrus Thomas, Larry Hughes, Kirk Hinrich & possibly even Drew Gooden packing out to Phoenix. Every time Bulls' fans see Kevin Garnett in Celtic green & Pau Gasol in Laker gold, you should be really angry that Pax didn't pull the trigger on either deal that could've helped the Bulls. If Amar'e gets dealt to say Miami or Detroit and he ends up playing this year in the Eastern Conference Finals, imagine what kind of anger Bulls' fans calling the flagship, ESPN Radio 1000, and 670 "The SCORE" will vent if this deal doesn't happen...

I like both. Kobe has an option at the end of this season and I know I'm dreaming but is there any chance he would exercise that option and join the Bulls if they had Amare and Rose?

I would love to see Kobe here, but what motivation would he have for leaving LA? Gasol will still be there, Bynum. They will probably lose Odom, but that probably won't be a deal breaker.

I really like the deal with Richardson. If you just bring in Amare you still need to add a 3rd guy and Pax is way to incompetent to pull of two big deals before the deadline.

I have a feeling that Thomas' career is about to hit a new level. I'd hate to trade him at this point and then watch him flourish elsewhere.
