They beat a team that was in the Finals last season fairly handily so who cares?

One thing you said I agree with, for them to actually be good, he needs to not be a bust. So yeah it matters.

He isn't a "bust" though, thus it doesn't matter that he struggled in a game in which they won by 20.

I do.

That's a top draft pick for a guy that never started a college game and they expected him to step up to NBA level. It was a bad pick.

He gets garbage stats and not even very many of those.

I don't care about the performance of Patrick Williams when the Bulls just blew out the team that was in the NBA Finals last year. Just as MANY didn't care about his 35 point performance when it involved 3rd stringers last season. And the primary reason (interesting to hear the Bulls announcer proclaim this just last night ironically) that he doesn't "put up stats" is because he never gets the damn ball to "put up stats" the way he has been used has stunk from the very beginning.

I'm glad they won but I do care that he looks bad and it isn't because he doesn't get the ball. It's because when he gets the ball he doesn't do a damn thing with it that is positive.

KC is right - just bring Williams off the bench. Williams is clearly not assertive enough as a starter so let him share the court with guys he feels more comfortable with. Becoming more assertive/confident is a professional maturity thing he needs to figure out quickly.

Nah he doesn't much get the ball. No one is going to look good under those circumstances.

I'm not saying he doesn't need the ball but you can add value without the ball too - hustle stats, help D, charges taken, rebounds, steals, etc. He just seems invisible. All he's done this year is get some good cardio in.

I agree, but it's also true that he's playing out of position, and his development has definitely been undermined as a result.

K.C. Johnson's "solution" is to bring the most talented player on the roster off the bench in exchange for an undersized, journeyman 4 man who has no discernible NBA skill.

Even if The Paw isn't the answer neither is Javonte Green.

Even being "misused" should lead to more than 2.3 rebounds per game.

no way in the world he is currently the most talented player on the roster. Not how he has looked so far this year. He is the most passive guy on the roster.

He is the most talented player on the roster. And it isn't all that close unless you factor in Lavine. Just like I stated that i would rather have John Wall and Jalen Brunson over Lonzo Ball (HOw is that one looking by the way) I would rather take this kid. Billy D has misused the kid since Day 1 offensively. They spent a helluva lot of time trying to unlock the bum that is Coby White (How is that one looking by the way?) when they should have been allowing this kid to develop his offensive game. Instead they stashed him in the corner instead of allowing him to play to his strengths.

Even with all of that I still believe that the kid will be fine in the long run.

I dont really agree with how they have used him offensively. But that is only part of the story here. So they are not using him correctly. Go get some boards. Go get some steals. Be aggressive. Show you need some run with the ball. He does none of that right now. He stands and watches.

Does he play the violin or something because he isn't showing it on the court.

Ayo doesn't get the ball all that much but when he does, he does something with it.

PWill doesn't need to put up 20 a night but get a couple boards, a steal, make me remember you are on the court.

Ayo is the point guard. He has the ball in his hands a helluva lot more than the Paw. And as much as Ayo is a good story, I still don't think he will ever be more than a solid backup on a winning team.

Ayo brings the ball up the court and passes it to DD and LaVine. He's lucky when he gets it back but if he does it is because he put himself in a position that makes a difference in the possession.

If they stashed Ayo in the corner (As they do the Paw) he'd never see the ball either.

Again you make it seem like all he is allowed to do is stand and watch. Go get some boards. Go get some steals. Make things happen. He stands and watches.

when a team thinks they can kick your ass, and does so right out the gate, then they relax a bit and get caught sleeping... yea that game

For what it is worth he is averaging 1 block per game and was known for taking tough covers ever since he was a Rookie. And "those things" which you describe still would not be enough to justify the drafting of him as a #4 pick. In the immortal words of one Kenny P from Jamaica Queens, Scorers drive Cadillacs while the guys you describe merely drive Pintos.

And again I'm all for giving him a push but the push cannot come from the likes of Javonte Green. He isn't even an NBA player. Go get someone that is capable of starting for you if you don't think this kid is the answer. Not an Undersized Journeyman who's only playing because you are enamored by his "effort". Go find someone with more talent that will provide the same things if this is the case.

And they do stash Ayo in the corner most of the time and he's wide open. This year he's started taking that shot without regret with success.

I want PWill to do well. I bet on him to be the Most Improved Player because I see he has talent he just isn't doing anything with it. Flashes of talent only give people confidence for so long.

It's not all about talent, this is where you go wrong. Talent without effort is meaningless. You're always taking a guy with 200% effort and 0 talent over a talented guy who doesn't give a shit about anything. Effort is why Joakim Noah won a DPOY and finished 4th for MVP.

I agree with the last statement but the kid has played less than 100 games and never has been more than a 5th option on offense. If they placed the ball in his hands (as they did for 3 years with that bum ass Coby White or as the Lakers did with Lonzo) and he was not successful, then I'd say abort mission. However the truth is they haven't. They don't even look his way on most nights offensively. Its hard for any player to develop when that is the case.

No you're not. You can find "effort" guys littered in Park Districts all across the city. They'll never be taken over a guy that has natural basketball talent.

If he is the most talented player on the team, they should not have to "get him the ball".

Alphas take the ball. You seem to have more confidence in him than he does in himself.

Nah in the NBA coaches run plays to get "Alphas" the ball. Donovan has never did that for The Paw. Kid isn't lacking for confidence. He's lacking the necessary touches on offense. Billy D needs to correct that and fast too.
