IF they were able to work out a deal with the Lakers for the players listed in the article, they could then trade Boozer, Snell and Randolph in a deal for Melo. They may be asked to give up Taj though.

Would you do it if Taj is included? I would. That's a championship quality lineup (as always with Rose presumed @ 100%). I like what Taj brings but that is more easily replaced than a proven scorer.

yeah that makes sense. If they are getting Gasol then I can see where they would be willing to include Taj.

Hasn't there also been reports of Melo wanting to play with Gasol and vice versa?

Offensively they would be better but defensively I believe that they would take a step back. I love Taj so it would be hard for me to give him up but if it meant having a chance to win a championship I would do it.

He wants money. The Bulls pitched him a roster with and without Taj.

The only acceptable scenario for me in which Taj goes is both Melo and Gasol here.

Agreed. Even then I would rather have Taj than this version of Gasol.

So...the talked about deal for Pau...and Boozer + Mirotic + something to Knicks for Carmelo?

Still don't want Carmelo, but that is a good team.

Or maybe Taj + Mirotic + something for Carmelo, and you amnesty Boozer? But then you have money left over again? I don't know how this all works.

Nas... hold me....

maybe NY will only do a sign and trade if Taj is included.

Taj and Mirotic couldn't work because the salaries wouldn't match up. The Bulls have to send away $18M in salary (teams can take back 125% of the salary that they send out) in order to give Melo a max deal in a sign and trade.

The Bulls will be top 3 in the East with the addition of Gasol, Mirotic, McDermott and a healthy Rose. What I don't get is how Gasol, Taj and Mirotic will share minutes. I suppose Gasol can back-up Noah as well but that still seems to be a bit of a log-jam at the 4. They still need a back-up to Jimmy...unless they think Hinrich can handle both guard positions or that Snell is going to take a big leap (as in big leap of faith).

I don't think it will be an issue. There's not a ton of overlap in skill set there, which is way more important than an overlap at position.

yeah that will be interesting.

And there maybe more moves to come. Looking at it today it seems to be a problem, but maybe there is more to come.

Why is it a problem? Those are 3 very different players. Traditional positions aren't that important.

I get they are different players. But there are only so many mins to go around. How are they all going to get mins? Is the a lineup combo that includes all 3 at one time?

I am just disappointed to come out of this deal with Gasol as their prize if that happens. Just seems like the same ole same ole. Big stars pass us up while we settle for someone like Boozer that is not going to help as much as we need.

Will there be any room left to bring in Stephenson or someone like that if you get Gasol?

Not sure what that means. I understand that the concept of guys playing multiple positions in today's NBA but they still have to guard someone. Can Mirotic play some 3? Maybe, but I doubt he can guard one. Thibs won't tolerate defensive deficiencies just to give guys minutes.

I don't see why it would be a problem to play Mirotic, Gasol, and Taj together. The spacing works out offensively. Not a great defensive lineup but it would work for a couple minutes at a time. I think Mirotic can play the 3.

Then how did Augustin play so much last year? Of course Thibs will play a guy like that. It he won't, then it looks like we have a 4 man rotation for next year.

Come on FF. Augustin played because they had no other choice. Plus he was the only guy who could score on most nights. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt Mirotic will light 'em up enough to offset his (presumed) limitations on D.

In a blast from the past, Peter Vecsey (whatever happened to him??) still thinks the Bulls can land both Gasol and Melo.
