I actually wouldn't be surprised if he resigns for a half the maximum contract length . . .

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/knicks/t ... 8e8MUDbtlL

LeBron eyes new Cavaliers pact, then ...

Peter Vecsey

“An appreciably well-wired roundball entrepreneur believes LeBron James will re-up with the Cavaliers for three years, a possibility he almost certainly would not entertain had Mike Brown been retained -- something GM Danny Ferry fiercely advocated doing, hence his resignation.
Should no championships be churned out during that time frame, my source is convinced LBJ will bolt for Jay-Z's Brooklyn with a clear conscience, figuring he gave Cleveland a full decade.”

You could hire a monkey to throw his own shit at a NBA Logo dartboard and he'd have a better chance of being right than Peter Vecsey.

That being said, all the superstars will usually have a opt-out after three years in all their new contracts.

I'm not suggesting he's not a throw it on the wall and see what sticks guy. I'm simply saying that I could see a contract, clause, etc. that would put LeBron back in the same spot in three years.

No chance. The new CBA is going to cut players salaries and the length of contracts. Wouldn't be a smart move to make now. Not only would he make less money he could only sign a 4 year deal. It was smart before because 7 year players can sign bigger contracts.

If Scottie Pippen was traded every time Vescey had a rumor about it Scottie would have had the equivalent of a cats 9 lives to have been on the Bulls more than 2 years.

I don't follow the NBA outside the Bulls like I do the other 3 majors (as well as our teams) who is his equivalent bad wise in other sports?

If Donovan McNabb were the Bears quarterback, the Eagles would win the Super Bowl.

Izzo will be the Cavs new head coach. He is getting about $6M a year for 5 years to leave Michigan St.

I've always thought Izzo to be of above average intelligence. If you're right, then I'm wrong.

It's hard to turn down double the money you are making.

It will be hard to turn down that type of money, but he could be walking into a storm if James doesn't stay there. Sure, he's still rich, but he'd have a tremendous mess and very little chance of being successful. I'm not sure how much that means to him, again, given the money he'd be given because he can probably still pick his next college job should the NBA not work out.

yeah it will be interesting to see how it plays out. obviously lebron isn't going to declare resigning w/ the Cavs just because Izzo signs...and like you said if he does leaves the Cavs, the Cavs will likely be horrible.

if i'm Izzo, I'd do it. still making bank and like you said if it doens't work out (if they lose Lebron) he can still probably get a good college job regardless

In other words, if LeBron leaves and Izzo ends up there, Izzo becomes the face of a 30 win team.

The thing with Izzo is that he has an incredibly comfortable situation now at MSU. They have built a program where he has yet to have a single player not reach at least one final four for like 16 years with that streak automatically extended for the next 3 years.

He won't have that same luxury in Cleveland if Lebron is gone and it will clearly be much more stressful since his job security will be on shaky ground since the team won't be good.

As I said before, in recent years he's also had more conflicts with some of his star players than I remember. I don't know if he really wants to coach a team full of players with attitudes.

Then again, the raise may be worth those negatives. It will be interesting to see what MSU can do to counter. Big Ten schools have more money than ever before and while they probably can't match it I'm sure they can come closer than ever before.

Pretty much. Looks great when you can earn $6M a year.

Is there any history between James and Izzo or is this just the owner trying to grab what he considers to be the best coach available?

One time LeBron watched a MSU game on TV when the Cavs weren't playing

I don't know if there is a history but LeBron has had a relationship with several college coaches. Knowing the recent history of college coaches this has to be one of the dumbest decisions ever. I believe Gilbert may just want a name and LeBron may be okay with it.

I think they definitely felt the need to make a splash, but this will look really stupid if James decides to leave. Perhaps this the first of more moves that they will make to appease James (moving Delonte West is probably high on this list).

I agree. However unless they are able to swindle a team like Toronto or Phoenix into making a sign and trade deal with them I really can't see how he believes he can win a title with this team. Unless having more control than any NBA player in history is his ultimate goal. If he comes back without them making a major player acquisition I will have lost the little respect I have for him.

• Meanwhile, let's not exaggerate the significance of a James' sighting Friday night. We know he likes to, we could say, "tease." Rick Noland reports for the Medina County Gazette and Elyria Chronicle-Telegram:

"James was seen at a movie theater in an Akron suburb sporting a Chicago Bulls cap with Michael Jordan's Jump Man 23 logo on the back and wearing a black-and-red warm-up suit.

"The Bulls are considered to be one of Cleveland's main competitors when it comes to signing James in free agency, which begins July 1, but the 25-year-old frequently wears sporting apparel of other professional teams."

Izzo to the Cavs reminds me of Pitino to the Celtics when he thought he'd have the first and third picks in the draft.

I think Izzo is the best in-game coach in college right now. He may have conflicts with his players but it's tough to argue he doesnt consistently get the most out of his talent. That's the type of coach that can be effective in the pros. I dont see a reason why he cant be as good as Skiles as a coach.

I'm not sure if he can. Just like I'm not sure Coach K can. Getting in the face of your players and yelling may work in college but in the NBA that is likely going to get you a Sprewell or the million dollar kids will just ignore you. Skiles is a great X's and O's guy so that get him respect for a little while. He played in the league too. Izzo doesn't have that going for him.

Izzo didnt play in the league, but he is a great X's and O's guy too and the bottom line is he knows how to coach. That will translate. Coaches do alot more in the NBA than many give them credit(or blame) for. A guy like Calipari would be awful as an NBA coach. Pitino could have been great if he wasnt so damn egotistical and stubborn. I dont think Izzo will have that problem.
