He is loyal to a fault and that is by far his worst quality as an owner from a fan perspective.

I agree with this. He'll spend when the time is right and even sometimes when it's wrong. It depends on who is in his ear making the pitch. Kenny kept pushing him to go for it and we ended up with Adam Dunn et al. Clearly both franchises are in rebuild mode and thus the free agent cash dried up. I believe the money will be there when the GM decides the team is ready. The long term question is whether the GM's know what they're doing...

Calling Reinsdorf cheap is lazy. His spending habits, philosophies etc are clear without resorting to lazy. They are also pretty different Sox to Bulls.

No he’s cheap.

It’s obvious. Not lazy.

It's just not true.

He has spent plenty of bad money on Ben Wallce, Adam Dunn, James Shields, etc. But the stuff people remember is trading a draft pick for cash.

No he's a cheap motherfucker. We're from Chicago mike, not Cleveland, Tampa Bay, or Oklahoma City.

San Diego ate half that Shields dough, there is a minimum salary floor in NBA..you have to spend X amount of money.

Yes, he's an owner of two teams and those teams have given out free agent contracts. Congrats to him on doing the bare minimum!!

He's cheap, and it's undeniable. When you run your teams like middle market teams and those teams are located in Chicago, it's a very fitting word.

In baseball I just don't see what else he was supposed to do but have hired better people than Schuler and Kenny. I was more upset with him from 84-the time Frank and Blackjack came along. Other than sign Fisk he let that whole era get away and the Cubs start the 1984 on era.

In the NBA again he stayed loyal to Krause until Phil and MJ were gone. That was not a cheap decision really. After that I feel there are larger factors like inept management especially cap wise and some unknown reason a huge FA will no longer come to thew Bulls.

He's never had a payroll in baseball that matched the market he's in, and he's never paid the luxury tax in the NBA when fielding a competitive team. There's no walking around that in a major market. He's a cheap, shitty owner.

Last word from me on this matter is no matter how unhappy I am with how Sox and Bulls fared I never felt cheated "for the most part". Additionally, I have never been much of a fan that insists on an owner having to spend more than they make.

I always felt more cheated by the Bears pre 2000 more than anything Jerry did.

Dude cheap was Bill Wirtz. You can't put Reinsdorf in that league. He paid his superstars. He paid them well.

Who did he pay?

Michael Jordan and Albert Belle?

What does that mean?

That he signed one big free agent 25 years ago and re-signed the greatest basketball player of all time?

That is ridiciulous. Signing one player to a max deal (in a league that has a salary floor right?) and two other guys on the downside of the career is not "spending money"

Spending money in pro sports means spending on great players.

Albert Belle counts. That was pretty much the last one.

If they don't land Machado this offseason will the "he's not cheap" guys admit they were wrong? My guess is no. It will be excused, once again, as being "economical"

Actually, if Machado does not come due to a low ball on his decision I would say yes. If Machado simply had to be a Yankee or something no.

If he did anything other than suck enough to get in position to draft Jordan, I would give him more credit.

He gets some for putting the right pieces together, but amazing is a stretch, imo.

You put the right dollar amount on that contract and I bet he no longer has to be a Yankee.
