Not sure if it was mentioned, but I loved MJ collapsing into Pippen's arms at the end of the flu game.

pippen is one of the best ever. his attitude towards the game was arguably better then jordans.

Pippen is not as good as Bird. Scottie is better than Wilkins. Wilkins scored better and thats it. Mcadoo was a scorer only. Dantley was a post player only and Moncrief was 20 to 30 pounds lighter than scottie. Scottie played EVERY phase of the game better than Moncrief maybe with the exception of mid range jumpers. Scottie was thick and long. Scottie's lone two weaknesses were closing games and an inconsistent outside shot. He improved at shooting but was never a lastt second shot guy. Thats okay with Pippen because he did so much thats not on a stat sheet that affected game outcomes. Defelcting passes, Double teams, changing shots with his length, defensive rebounding ala Magic and running a fast break werejust some of the things when added together in forty minutes made it okay for MJ to be Dominant in so much less than he had to do before 1990.

The true point about scottie Pippens worth is the first year after MJ quit the first time. He was the All Star MVP. He almos won he league MVP. His Bulls lost in Seven to the KNicks in the 2nd rd and would have won if Hugh Hollins was never born.

Scottie may not be the top player ever but there is no question that Pippen was the best swing-man/end to end player ever.

It's just not true. He was no better than guys like Billy Cunningham or Connie Hawkins. Look at the percentage a guy like Kiki Vandeweghe shot. I'm not sure I'd call Kiki "better" than Scottie but it certainly isn't as absurd as some of you make it out to be.

JORR you're thinking out of the box and I love your knowledge of pre-90's hoops but I couldn't disagree with you more about Scottie.

I just think he's being way overblown and misremembered with his Hall of Fame induction. He's somehow gone from being compared to Dennis Johnson to being compared to Larry Bird. I'm not sure that's everywhere, but it seems to be the case in Chicago and for sure in this forum.

I'm not suggesting Scottie was anything less than great and a deserving Hall of Famer. I think Skip Bayless is a goof for stating otherwise. But I'd compare his growing legend to that of a guy like Roberto Clemente who fits in with guys like Billy Williams, Al Kaline, and Minnie Minoso but is now largely remembered as being an equal of Willie, Hank, and Mickey.

To say he had three or four good years left at the age of 38 is quite a stretch. He played about 100 games his last season. As for being a "five tool" player, he was never really a power hitter. Yeah, he hit 20 a few times and I think one year he just missed 30. Some of that has to do with his home park, but he wasn't a slugger like Mays, Aaron, Mantle, or Robinson. He's better compared to a guy like Pete Rose. Look at how Clemente is remembered and Frank Robinson is forgotten. How can that be?

Anyway, I'd love to continue this discussion but I don't want to piss off Darkside by doing it in Scottie's thread. Maybe we can start a new topic or take it over to the Gus Johnson thread.

I just got around to reading pst page 1 of this thread.

Whoever it was a couple pages back (JORR?) that said Domonique Wilkins was better than Pip is out of their damn mind. The "black hole" portion of 'Nique's offensive game has already been discussed, but not only that, he literally couldn't guard anybody effectively. Not only could he not do it, he had no intention of even trying to do so. He is one of the most one-dimensional "superstars" the league has ever seen.
