I'm right. He's one of the best shooters in the last 5 years, and he understands how to beat defenses. He moved to the Big-East this year, and despite every team trying to load up to stop him, he kicked everyone's ass. He was simply unstoppable. He doesn't have Dirk's size, and he won't be close to Dirk, but he'll be an absolute bitch to opposing defenses. You can't leave him. There's no cheating off him. He'll kill you if he gets open. Rose will have room to operate with him on the floor.

That won't happen, IMO.

He really isn't. In point of fact, his measurables were very close to those of Chandler Parsons. I also love the second round pick of Cameron Bairstow. Brings a lot of Boozer's game.

I don't think he is close to a finished product. Teams that worth him out didn't realize how athletic he was until the combine. I expect him to continue improving like Taj did when he came into the league at 24.

McDermott has a very different body type than those two and is beginning his career in an era where classic low-post play has been de-emphasized in part due to significant rules changes. The idea that he is anything approaching Melo's offensive equal is also preposterous. Melo is quicker, stronger, a better ballhandler and has better balance. What do you mean by scoring a lot, anyway? 25 ppg? He will never be a primary or secondary scoring option on a good team, in my opinion, so it will be impossible for him to achieve such a stat.

He's not exactly like those guys but he's more like them than he's like the driveway shooters a lot of people are comparing him to. McDermott handles the ball just fine for the NBA. I think he could be a 20 ppg scorer in the right situation.

Well I think that if that is the way it goes then the Bulls got exactly what they wanted.

Rich man's Kevin Durant with less height and more strength. He'll probably average 35 a game next season.

Don't sell him short. He is much stronger than Durant.

Rich man's Lebron with Larry Bird's range.

I'm serious. Pierce has had that YMCA game for his entire career. Kind of like Bird. You think a guy that appears to be running in mud wouldn't be effective but they are. BTW McDermott has a higher vertical than both of them.

I am cautiously optimistic about him. I want to think like MITC, and I really hope he is right, but I just cannot get there.

I think at the end of the day Harris will be the better pro.

Would love to be wrong.

I can't think of a good comp honestly. One of the biggest reasons Nowitzki has become great at that shot is his height and release point. I don't expect McDermott to be nearly as efficient. I worry that he won't have the strength or handle to get around defenders also. But he's clearly a very gifted scorer. I can see him as a very good 6th or 7th man. I don't see him ever averaging 20 ppg.

If he's like Glen Rice than it's one helluva draft pick. Not only would he be Sarah Palin approved, but he'll be a productive player for a decade. I trust the Bull when it comes to evaluating talent.

Well, he has absolutely nothing in common with Barkley. Aguirre played a lot with his back to the basket and was very thick on bottom, so McDermott doesn't resemble him much either. In terms of playing style, McDermott most closely overlaps with Melo, but McDermott lacks too many key physical attributes and skills for that comparison to be apt.

Isn't it amazing how much he looks like Dirk with that step-back?

Anyways, no one really knows. But let this ease your mind: Doug is one of the most efficient scorers ever in the NCAA. He's one of the best shooters on the planet. He's that good. There's definitely limitations, I won't deny that. But this guy is among the deadest of deadeye shooters.

See this from draftexpress:
Quote:
McDermott was born to score, as its something he simply has an unbelievable knack for. He is the fifth best all-time leading scorer in NCAA history, and indeed led the nation in that category in each of the past two seasons. McDermott's scoring rate is impressive not just in the context of the past few years, as his exploits this season ranks him as the best per-40 minute pace-adjusted major-conference scorer in the DraftExpress database, which dates back to 2001.

What's perhaps most impressive about McDermott is that he's not just a volume scorer, he's also tremendously efficient—his percentages: 57% 2P%, 45% 3P%, along with just 1.8 turnovers per game, are sparkling. Its virtually unprecedented to see a player score at the rate he does, and still remain that efficient. His true shooting percentage was 65% this season, third best among draft prospects (behind Stauskas and Embiid), but he carried a significantly heavier usage role than either, which makes his efficiency all the more impressive.

Bear in mind that his teammates were mostly garbage. Second-highest scorer averaged about 10ppg. Opposing teams knew what it took to beat Creighton: stop Doug. And they pretty much couldn't. Even among the good teams, Doug typically lit them up. His knack for scoring is simply elite. It's hard to see how he wouldn't excel in the Bulls' system.
