Leonard is a better player than Butler, however Butler has never pulled a Derrick Rose and sat out an entire season (including playoffs!) pouting like a bitch. So lets say that makes them about even. Everyone knows the Bulls were trading Butler. Everyone knows the Spurs are trading Leonard. So that doesn't change things. So let's see what the Lakers or whoever give up and compare to the Butler haul. My guess is the Spurs are going to get twice the return for somebody who is nowhere near twice the player. |

Leonard is a top-5 (3?) player when healthy. Problem is, was he pouting, still injured, or is he mentally weak in regards to the injury? |

I don’t think it’s comparable. When healthy Kawhi was the best or 2nd best player in the world. That ceiling ups the ante. |

Indiana ended up doing well getting Oladipo for George, but I think it's typically pretty difficult to get value in return. I liked the Butler deal at the time for the Bulls. My reasoning was that they got a top 10 pick, a top 5 pick from a year ago and a 22 year old who most thought had upside. Unless you're making moves to free up cap space and taking back expiring contracts, the Bulls did well to get young talent back. Obviously, there's no guarantee that they would have drafted a good player at #7, or that Dunn/LeVine could play, but this was a very sensible deal to get back potential talent/upside and kick-start a rebuild. The only flaw is that they didn't get any future picks which is what Boston was able to cash in on. I'm not sure Kawhi will get as much back if we agree he's a better player than Butler. He may not be a durable and teams know the Spurs are likely to trade him. What are the Spurs looking for in return? Are they trying to win still or does it make sense to rebuild with GS likely to remain a force for at least the next two seasons? Can they get multiple draft picks in return or find a team like the Minnesota who is willing to unload it's younger talent outside of their best player? |

So I'd say 3rd best.. at best |

I'd say that when properly motivated and healthy, that Butler is a slightly better player and that is because he is one of the top three defenders in the entire league on a man to man basis. Leonard is a bit better offensively, though. |

Kawhi when actually playing was better than Durant. Not near LeBron. |
