On a day where the Bulls shook up their TV & radio broadcasts come next season, the team might soon have a new head coach. When I picked up my Sun-Times this morning, the name that I read about is the Cliff Claven-looking Mike D'Antoni, who is still under contract for 2 more seasons as head coach of the Phoenix Suns. He met with the Bulls & New York Knicks over the weekend in Phoenix, where D'Antoni is said to be at odds with GM Steve Kerr and actually wants out after the Suns flopped in their first round NBA playoff series vs. the San Antonio Spurs. While I heard reports late this afternoon that the Knicks have offered $30 million over 5 years to lure D'Antoni to Manhattan, I have not heard any such offer from the Bulls. That's the catch. I'm not so sure Jerry Reinsdorf is willing to spend that kind of money on any head coach anymore, even on a guy who won over 50 games per season in Phoenix and was a former NBA Coach of the Year.

The Bulls might also have to give up a draft pick to Phoenix to get D'Antoni.

You're absolutely right, given the fact that Scott Skiles, now the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, was the Phoenix Suns' head coach before coaching the Bulls. I'm not sure that the Bulls would give up a draft pick to the Suns for Mike D'Antoni as compensation. I know that the guy who looks like the mailman on "Cheers" is owed $8.5 million over 2 years, and there's a report out of Phoenix that D'Antoni wants an answer by Friday. As for the report that the Knicks have offered $30 million over 5 years, that might also be a smokescreen. The one name I keep hearing as the frontrunner to replace Isiah Thomas in New York is actually Mark Jackson, who is working the NBA Playoffs for ESPN & ABC Sports, I believe through the NBA Finals in June.
