Post subject:  The Final 3

According to the Sun-Times & 670 "The SCORE's" Brian Hanley, the Bulls plan on naming one of three finalists to become the team's new head coach sometime later this week. The three are rumored to be former Minnesota Timberwolves' head coach Dwane Casey, Sacramento Kings' assistant Chuck Person or Phoenix Suns' Assistant GM Vinny Del Negro, who ESPN.com's Marc Stein claims is the frontrunner for the job. I'm not exactly thrilled with any of them, even though Casey is the only coach of the three with any kind of head coaching experience. Although he also lacks that much experience, Sun-Times' columnist Jay Mariotti today built a case for Tom Thibodeau, the Boston Celtics' assistant whom I felt was on the Bulls' radar all along. He's 2 wins away from a NBA Championship, and has come up with the defensive game plan that has frustrated Kobe Bryant and the Lakers in the first 2 games of these NBA Finals. The Celts haven't granted permission, but he might be the one that actually preaches defense, which I thought is what Reinsdorf was looking for...

The Bulls have managed in less then a month to kill all my joy from the lottery. If we hire Casey I will officially consider this a terrible offseason, despite any potential trades AND winning the lottery. We will suck next season.

The Score is reporting that Person is no longer being considered for the Bulls job.

ChicagoSports.com now reports that Vinny Del Negro, lack of experience aside, will become the new Bulls' head coach. More details and reaction on the way...

If thats the case then my theory is the Bulls intentionally made it seem like Casey was a serious choice only so noone would be pissed about Del Negro.

Anyone who does is lying. Noone knows shit about this guy as a coach, including Vinny. Im annoyed they didnt wait for Thibodeau, although Im not surprised. At this point I dont ever really expect Paxson to make good decisions, Im just happy when he doesnt make terrible decisions. Casey would have been a terrible decision.

Do we have to call him Vinny Del African-American or Vinny Del Nut?

My shoulders cannot shrug vehemently enough for this turn of events.

The most I can say for this hire is that it completely negates Bernstein's argument that Collins wasn't hired because his selection wouldn't resonate with Bulls fans.

I will say I'm glad it's not Avery Johnson. We know that Avery Johnson sucks as a coach. We don't know that yet about Vinnie.

At this point who cares what Bernstein says or thinks. What I wonder is if this guy can coach the Bulls to championship or if we are in for another Floyd/Cartwright like era.

I have heard many on this board say that they respect his basketball acumen. His recent reflections on the Bulls coaching situation indicate that he has very little credibility on basketball issues.

Regarding your second comment, no coach will be able to lead the current group of Bulls players to a title since the team has very limited talent. That's why Reinsdorf should've been shopping for a new GM in addition to a new coach.

If Doc Rivers can get within 2 games of a championship, then just about any coach can.

Players win championships, coaches only make it more difficult to win them.

Vinny Del Negro will lead the Bulls to the NBA Championship...if he purchases tickets.

At this stage, why not keep Boylan? I mean, there's an implied upgrade to Del Negro, but you couldn't prove it by me. Hell give the job to Stacey King

I would have felt better if they hired a former player. Why wasn't Scottie good enough? What about BJ? When did Del Negro every play defense? He was nothing more than a Paxson.

And that probably explains why he got the job. He's Paxson's Mini-Me.
