How is T. Thomas going to fit in after S. Skiles wouldn't even let him sit on the bench a few years ago?

The difference is the Bulls now have a coach that bad players can walk all over. Skiles didn't take any crap from anyone, which is a major reason the team eventually quit on him.

Approx. how much money does the L. Hughes for T. Thomas / J. James save the team?

Ok, I took a look at the salaries, and to me, this deal makes sense. James and Thomas together have about the same salary as Hughes: for this season and next season. And like Hughes, both of their contracts expire next year. So, you're still clear for 2010, and you get rid of an extra guard who never plays. Junk for junk, but Pax told Hughes he'd try to get him out of here, and now you don't have to worry about that situation.

But if T. Thomas didn't want to play here a few years ago, what makes you think he's going to be anymore willing to play than L. Hughes?

.... Plus, at the 3 position, the Bull already have L. Deng and J. Salmons. So instead of having a backlog of 2s, we now have too many SFs.

I would have just assumed traded K. Heinrich and B. Gordon and played L. Hughes for the next two seasons.

Once, when asked if he was concerned about his former coach Nate McMillan commenting that he has a selfish attitude, replied, "I don't even know what he's talking about, I just worry about Jerome."

The NBA is just fucked up when it comes to trades & how the talent is treated. These players are the ultimate prima-donna's (sp?)

Thomas didn't play because of Skiles. Hughes isn't playing because of Del Negro. And Salmons can play power forward just fine in a smaller lineup.

The contracts are fucked up. More than any other league, the NBA would benefit from non-guaranteed contracts. The level of play would be so much better if rosters were staffed with players deemed to be legitimately earning their contract values.

This Bulls/Knicks' trade appears to be nothing more than garbage for garbage. Look on the bright side though. Stephon Marbury has someone to help count his money if Larry Hughes becomes a malcontent in Gotham...

WHAT? Salmons is a 2/3. Thomas is now a 4 for the Bulls and in a running lineup can sneak into the 5 for short stretches. But no way, no how is Salmons a 4.

Hey, I heard you use that same description on the B&B show in reference to the trade that went down yesterday, COF...sensing a pattern here...

Yeah Salmons is generously listed at 6-6....no way hes a 4 in the NBA even in a small lineup.

Apparently James has an injury and there may be an insurance buyout/settlement of his contract.

You are correct, and K.C. Johnson has the story online as I type this message. There could be some extra $$$$ available as a result of this news. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/ch ... 9280.story

CoF, Tim Thomas is not less talented than Larry Hughes and Salmons is definitely not a 4. Tim Thomas can basically replace Noc even when unmotivated. I dont see how this can possibly be construed as a bad trade, although its not a great one by any means.

Personally, I would have kept Nocioni, but the rest was just shuffling piles of shit around.

I think that's the idea. If you have $12M budgeted for a shitty player who will get no play-time, you might as well fill the spot with people who don't want to play. Plus, Pax told Hughes he'd try to move him somewhere where he could play.

Besides getting the first round pick I really don't have a clue what Paxson was doing. That's not surprising because I haven't had a clue about his moves for some time.

Hughes was done here. Plain and simple. Thomas is talented and didn't fit the Skiles system a few years back because he's not a hard nosed defender. He was averaging 9 a game with the Knicks and can give some O off the bench. James will get a buyout. He ruptured his Achilles and may never play again and he also gives you a 5M bogey next year in an expiring contract move (as long as he don't retire)
