Johnny "Red" Kerr's passing caught me off guard, because it was around 11:20p or so when I found out on chicagotribune.com that he died, and I was online at another site that I post for, www.ChicagolandRadioandMedia.com. When rumors originally spread online a few weeks ago about trades involving the current Bulls' roster, there was a story in which it was revealed why "Red" was conspicously absent from several recent home games. & it turns out that the much talked halftime ceremony February 10th during the Bulls/Pistons' game honoring Johnny's career was moved up as a result. I know he was a fixture until this season on the team's broadcasts and is synonymous with Bulls' history overall. It's a sad day for Bulls' fans young & old. First, Norm Van Lier and now, the first head coach when the Bulls started playing basketball in 1966 as an expansion NBA franchise. R.I.P., guys. ![]() |
