Rose shouldn't start cuz of yesterday? What?

Bulls have the 3rd best record in the East since the All-star break. That was with Rose starting all but one game. Let's use that sample and continue starting him. Oh...also cuz he's awesome and the best player on the Bulls, he's one of the quickest players in the NBA, is shooting 47% from the field and is already a top 5 point guard.

I'm as much a D Rose fan as anyone. I thought people calling for Beasley were nutso. So far Rose looks to be the better pick, but, regardless of whether Beasley becomes a great player, Rose was and is the better choice for the 2008 Bulls and beyond.

Rose is a rookie, he's going to hit the NBA rookie wall. Reducing his playing time now might be a way to keep him sharp into the post-season, rather than have him hit the wall, start having bad games and then lose confidence as a result.

And there's the learning opportunity of sitting on the Bulls bench with the assistants (Bulls have probably the best assistant coaches in the NBA) and the veteran players and just watching and discussing the game rather than spending a few minutes here and there on the bench trying to catch his breath.

And the team in the last 2 games has played the best basketball they've played all season.

Not saying bench D Rose completely, but maybe reducing his minutes, not having him start every night could result in making him a better player than simply running him into and through the rookie wall.

And it reduces the chance of a fatigued Rose suffering more injuries---speaking of injuries, if Rose's wrist is injured, why was he in the game at all? And if it's not injured, why didn't he start and play 35+ minutes as he usually does.

Let's dissect this point-by-point, shall we?


First of all, he hit the rookie wall back in January so he's not going to get any worse than he is. And the best way to cause him to lose confidence would be to SIT HIM. You'd be sending the message of, "Gee Derrick, you were good enough to start when we were out of the playoff hunt but since we're in, we're gonna go with Kirk." Yeah, let's see what that would do to his psyche.


Dude, are you basketball retarded? Sitting on the bench next to the coaches has NO VALUE with regards to becoming a better player. You get better by playing. You earn experience by playing. You build confidence by playing...period. You think Del and Bernie are on the bench answering "Frequently Asked Basketball Questions?" They're diagraming plays and they're obeying Vinny. That's it.


Again, counter-productive and the "rookie wall" argument makes no sense. Rookies hit the "rookie wall" whether they start every day or whether they come off the bench with reduced minutes. It doesn't matter. This isn't Janneiro Pargo or Rick Brunson we're talking about. Derrick Rose is a SPECIAL basketball player.

And they have played their best basketball of the season in the last 2 games, with Rose either out completely or playing limited minutes.

You're trying to draw a causal relationship between Rose not starting and the Bulls playing well. One has nothing to do with the other.
