I believe they both could play d,which is more a state of mind.Shaq and Wilt could never shoot free throws and I know they were coached at it. The same with rebounding no one taught Rodman to do it he love doing it.

Isiah Thomas was 6'1" and he did pretty well for himself. His strength, quickness, vision, and work ethic tells me that he can and will improve on D.

Well, he can't get any worse, can he?

Part of the problem lies with Rose being able to just simply stay in front of his man, which he should be able to do with the speed he possesses. Honestly, with this VDN regime in charge of teaching defense, don't look for his matador defense to improve any next season unless he dedicates much of the off season to looking at film and maybe working with some veteran NBA players to learn some different techniques on defense.

he's 6'3. he also has good physical tools, such as good lateral quickness and strength, to allow him to be a good defender. he is also a hard worker and has a desire to be great. what makes you think he won't be a good defender? lebron was a horrible defender as a rookie, and now he is talked about for defensive player of the year. it takes time.

Someone in the last quarter century.... ok how about LeBron? His sensational rookie season overshadowed the fact he was a terrible on the ball defender and poor shooter. This season he drastically improved his shooting and his defense is finally at the All-NBA level it probably should have been two seasons ago.

Rose will improve great on D because since Simeon he has shown he will work his ass off to win and do whatever he can to improve as a player. Calipari doesnt seem like a coach who stressed defense to me, and unfortunately Vinny seems inadequate and teaching any type of fundamentals pertaining to basketball.
