I would guess they have tried very hard to trade him.

Agreed, but wonder what benefit there is for getting rid of him now (unless they didn't want him to be a distraction if he got no playing time) instead of using that expiring deal before the trade deadline.

Everytime I see him play (not often!) He seems to have no problem scoring.
So what is his problem? The Bulls will need scoring from someone.

He has always had talent, but he has a reputation of being lazy. The Bulls, now for the 2nd time, don't want him to be around the team so they must not like his attitude.

I didn't see much scoring from him last year JimmyPasta. He did his best Ben Gordon impression and hoisted up as many bad 3's as he possibly could. The only problem was that he didn't hit any of them.

zero defense, black hole when the ball is in the vicinity, a complete "me" guy. Instant offense outside of the framework of your offense can be ok for a short burst. But as a career decision it must not sit well with the Bulls and what they want around the young, impressionable new point guard.

Nas,
Can you think of a guy that has been paid as much to play so little? like $$$ per game.
I'm not talking about being overpaid and playing, I mean...paid to do nothing.

I think Marbury might be the winner. The funny thing was Tim Thomas and Marbury were on the same team last year. Think about how much salary was just flushed down the toilet by the Knicks.

I know Gil Arenas has been hurt but I've almost forgotten that he's even still in the league.

The Bulls must like paying Tim Thomas so they can watch him play for other teams. That's the only way this makes sense. Why not trade him?

The Chicago Bulls are buying out the contract of forward Tim Thomas.

Thomas had one season left on his deal, which would have paid him nearly $6.5 million. He played in just 18 games with the Bulls after being acquired from the New York Knicks in a four-player trade on Feb. 19.

The move helps keep the Bulls from paying the luxury tax after signing Jannero Pargo and re-signing Lindsey Hunter.

The 32-year-old Thomas has averaged 11.6 points and 4.1 rebounds for six teams in 12 years. He was also dealt from the Knicks to the Bulls before the 2005-06 season, but played just three games for Chicago and was waived the following March.
I think the answer is right there in the article you quoted.
