If they had hired Doug Collins or Mike D'Antoni as head coach?

Given the huge holes on this roster and everything else that has went on with this team for the last few years. No doubt Vinny is awful and deserves to be fired, but could anyone have done much with this mess?

Any coach that can make Derrick Rose the focal point of the offense would. It is that simple.

Any time you watch a Bulls game and see anyone but Rose dribbling and trying to create a shot is a waste of his talent.

I don't think he'd make the Bulls a title contender but that one change alone would make a major difference.

The Bull needs an offensive guy. D'antoni would have at least made the Bull intersting to watch, if not competitive.

The Bull also needs a guy who has the ability to develop a young star, which Collins was able to do with a young G Hill.

The Bull needs a guy who is going to play more than 7 guys...

Isn't Larry Brown--not mentioned, i realize--famous for his limited-use-of-the-bench rotations? when he coached the pistons to a championship, brown essentially played 6 guys exclusively (the starting 5 + tayshaun prince) and then when prince moved into the starting rotation the next season, the starting 5 + McDyess.
Maybe Hunter spelled the guards sometimes, tho they could bring Prince in to play 2 guard to spell Hamilton or move Rip to point guard to give Billups a breather.

Larry Brown ran this thing called "practice". Larry Brown diagrammed these things called "plays". Larry Brown had the respect of his front office & players. In short: Larry Brown knows basketball. Vinny knows his time is nearly up.

My word on Christmas Eve. Pax or Gar tell Vinny this is what to do!Tell Rose what to do!How hard can it be? Vinny can't draw up inbounds plays? Can't Bernie help him on that? Who is responsible for player development? Oh RANDY Brown go figure?

He might not play them in games, but LARRY Brown has a track record of working with young players. People forget LARRY Brown was a pretty good player.

yes, and yes. D'antoni would have made rose a sure thing all star. Tyrus would have thrived too.

Director of Player Development – Randy Brown
I do think a :drunken: WWN is more coherent than a sober Apologist :wink:

Just for you

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;

And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,

Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!

On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,

With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;

A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a little round belly,

That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."

The answer is HELL YEAH! The Bulls would be a lot better with someone other than Vinny Del Negro as head coach, but this is a tough spot, especially with the coveted, much publicized free agent class this summer.

Even though Bernie Bickerstaff has a lot more head coaching experience than VDN, Bernie has a less than impressive record as head coach himself, most recently with the Charlotte Bobcats. I think the reason why Uncle Jerry, Executive V.P. John Paxson & General Manager Gar Forman haven't pulled the trigger on Vinny's dismissal has a lot to do with which player may end up coming here this summer, if any.

670 The SCORE's David Schuster actually brought up a very valid point yesterday. "Schu" believes that the next head coach, whoever he is, eventually is someone that these premium free agents would want to play for. Besides, the last thing the Bulls need is another Jim Boylan interim fiasco 2 years ago after Scott Skiles was fired on Christmas Eve. I don't think free agents would want to come here, especially if Bernie or even John himself were nothing more than interims the rest of this season. We can continue to bitch & moan all we want, Bulls fans. The bottom line is that VDN isn't going anywhere...at least not now.

Yes. I think you'd have a better coached team, and an actual system that these guys would install.

That's not to say that the Bulls, with this roster, would be a good team, but they may be more competitive, and the coaches you mention would have the respect of the players.

It still comes down to having better players ultimately, but I don't think this team is as horrible as they look.

Collins part 2 would have been interesting. But I would strongly encourage an interview of Thibodeaux. Granted, we might want someone offensively-minded, but give the guy an interview at least.
