Tyrus Thomas and James Johnson from the Bulls to the Wiz for big, rebounding C Brendan Haywood. The important thing here, besides the Bull upgrading inside, is that Haywood is expiring this offseason. |

All dependent, of course, on whether they can lure one of the big FAs this offseason. If so, then get it done! |

Well, that's the gigantic question this offseason anyway ... but they have to make a decision to be in that position prior to knowing the answer. This gets them about $2MM closer (JJ's salary) - they could renounce Tyrus this offseason anyway and not be in the hook for the dollars. Plus, a big defender like Haywood is imporant if they really want to make a push for the playoffs this year. |

I got in a facebook argument with some chick because she was calling Tyrus Thomas her future husband. I told her she is going to have some of the dumbest kids ever. I guess she didn't like my opinion on the matter. |

Im really not a fan of James Johnson. He has looked lost on the floor all season. But I would be surprised if the Bulls gave up on their #1 draft choice from this past year so soon. He really isn't making any money, so if he could turn into a solid role player he would be a good low cost roster spot next season. |

get rid of tyrus AND james johnson at the same time for a low post bigman with an expiring contract? this is far too good to be true |

The Wiz isn't looking for expirings as they aren't in the running for 2010 Free Agents, cap wise - they are actually looking to acquire some "talent" for one of their expirings. While we know the train wreck that Tyrus is, he still has elite athletic talent that someone will always think they can harness. Jerome James is an expiring, so unless it's a deal for a bigger expiring (Ray Allen/TMac, etc.) and you need to match salaries, I don't see him being moved. But again, only one of many rumors that are going to be floating out there prior to the deadline - but it seems to make sense for both sides. |

Haywood is an adequate big who would make up for the loss of Noah. He's more a bruiser than Miller and blocks shots. This would be a good move. |

For a league that is probably looking a smaller cap next year, the $1.7MM saved on Johnson in 2011 helps in their quest for two near-max free agents. Not game changing, but every little bit will help. Ultimately, they need to find a home for Salmons ($5.8MM/2011) and Kirk ($9MM/2011) before the trade deadline if they want to be in that position this summer. |

Why would Washingon make this deal? |

I would think that Washington would stay away from questionable character after the Arenas saga for at least a little bit. |

They like James and don't plan on bringing Haywood back next season. They will probably go the youth route. Not sure why the Bulls would dump a 1st round pick after half a year. |

HOVA wrote: Not sure why the Bulls would dump a 1st round pick after half a year. That was the point I was making. I don't like James Johnson, but this team will have to have 12 guys under contract in 2010. He is not making any major money, so why give up the roster spot? The guy might actually make some improvements and become a contributor off the bench. You can't just dump the whole roster. |

He ressurected his carrer when he changed teams. I think that's the comparison Rick was making. |

I would even rate Tyrus' tenure on the Bulls higher than O'Neals tenure in Portland. He was the 12th man on the bench on the Jailblazers. |

Rick look at the roster of the team he was on plus he came straight from high school. They knew he was good but they were too deep. |

From Yahoo... As the Chicago Bulls prepare to trade forward Tyrus Thomas(notes) before Thursday’s deadline, the franchise’s front office has suggested to prospective bidders that they have a solid offer of a middling first-round pick and expiring contracts, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets made bids for Thomas over the weekend, league sources said. The Nuggets have actively searched for a big man in recent weeks, working to pry younger (DeAndre Jordan(notes)) and older ones (Antonio McDyess(notes) and Ben Wallace(notes)) without success. After losing out on Caron Butler(notes) to the Mavericks, Houston has gotten serious with bids for Thomas and Washington’s Antawn Jamison(notes), sources said. More From Adrian WojnarowskiCavs remain leaders to land Stoudemire Feb 15, 2010 Mavericks to acquire Butler Feb 13, 2010 Nevertheless, here are two developments to watch with Thomas: Several league executives suggested the Minnesota Timberwolves could be a sleeper for him. Minnesota general manager David Kahn has been researching Thomas and has plenty of assets – three 2010 first-round picks, multiple second-rounders and a host of expiring contracts – to make it happen. Once the Timberwolves trade Al Jefferson(notes) this summer, they can re-sign Thomas and plug him into the frontline with Kevin Love(notes). Jefferson is expected to be traded for a talented, young small forward. Trading for Thomas would be a way to get a long, athletic power forward with upside, and the Timberwolves could easily re-sign him this summer. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=a ... &type=lgns |
