Ok they were 82-82 and 4-8 in the playoffs right?
Really that's not bad. It's not Vinny's fault that he had players that sucked outside of a couple bad contract guys.
And I think that Noah is an example that he can develop players. Rose is certainly coming along too. They were way overmatched in the playoffs this year before Vinny's coaching got anywhere near the floor. I don't deny that he made a couple bad coaching decisions, bad time out management and so on but after all he was pretty green, right?
Do you think the Bulls would really have done better with Collins?

Vinny didn't develop anyone. Paxson had to threaten the guy just to get him to play the #1 pick in the 4th quarter. The assistant coaches are responsible for their development. If you noticed none of the players really came out and supported Vinny. That tells you what they think about him. Pete Myers told someone that I know that Vinny is clueless on the sidelines and that some of the plays he draws up are so horrible that assistants have to jump in.

I wouldn't hire him to coach a grade school basketball team. He makes Skiles look like Phil Jackson or Red Auerbach

He had some curious substitution patterns. Played the top 6-7 guys way too much too early in the year for my tastes.

Who the fuck is Pete Myers and what team did he ever coach? He's like Jerry's Yosh Kawano or something.

I think Pete Myers is one of those guys that is a really good assistant but would probably be a bad coach. I think he is smart enough to know this. He will have a job with the Bulls as long as he wants one.

was 9/11 really that bad? is the oil spill really going to effect anything? can you really grow mushrooms on manure? does larry horse actually eat people alive? will spmack ever really come out of the closet? will the end of time actually mean vinny can't ever coach again?

So, you forgot about how piss-poor he used Rose for the balance of two years?!? :?

Like Daniel says ... we'll see who is beating down Vinny's door to come work for them in whatever capacity.

Was Vinny a bad coach? Yes.

Was he as bad as I expected him to be? No.

The Bulls are about to finish paying off Skiles so they needed to fire Vinny and hire a new coach to continue having 2 head coaches on the payroll.

All the more reason why this is on the organization for hiring him in the first place.

Vinny was bad, no doubt, but that was expected - the guy had never coached before. I'd expect a franchise like Indiana or Minnesota to make a hire like that, but a storied team in the 3rd biggest media market in the country should never even interview a Vinny Del Negro, let alone hire him to coach their #1 draft pick.

Actually, didn't Noah/Rose both say they would support Vinny coming back? Sure, we can judge the level of enthusiam, and all that, but the comments were made.

Isn't Derrick Rose responsible for his own development? When you have as much talent as he does, it's going to get through eventually. I do recall to start the season, Rose wasn't playing beyond average, and Del Negro was being criticized for Rose's lack of development when it really came down to Rose recoving slowly from his ankle injury.

Taj Gibson was a nice late round pick who seemed to get better as the year went on. Before the season started, nobody expeted him to be a key contributor.

Obviously, Noah has gotten much better, but again, I think he's got a lot of talent to begin with. He just needed to dedicate himself to the weight room, and put in the time.

Look at this roster - almost half of it is bad. Who were you looking for him to develop?

As for other guys, like Deng or Hinrich, do you really think any coach is going to make these these guys any better than what they are? 4th or 5th options?

What were the specific problems that you had with Del Negro as a coach? Obviously, the usage of timeouts stood out in the playoffs last season....Not playing Derrick Rose late in games was also irritating....What about his game plans?

I have my issues with him too, and I'm upset he's being fired, but he was dealt a bad hand here. Management gave him half a roster, and that half that mattered resulted in Luol Deng being the team's 2nd best scorer.

however you look at it the bulls will bring in another coach and within 2 to 3 years he will be fired too. coaches are overrated anyway. theres only a few that actually make a difference on their team.

To me it seemed like Myers was doing a great deal of the play calling on the bench during games. He’s constantly barking orders from the sideline, and Vinny isn’t doing much of that during play. Now I don’t know what his contributions were during practices, but from games I’ve attended and what I saw on TV, he seems to have a great feel for this team.

He does seem to be a Paxson lackey though, and will probably be here as long as Paxson is GM. I’ve got nothing against him, but I agree with Nas’ statement that he would probably not be a good head coach. But I think he really should have gotten a shot when Skiles was canned a couple years ago. He would have probably been a much better choice than Jim Boylan was at the time since he has been around this team for almost a decade now.

Think about how the Bears players came out for Lovie and then compare that to Noah and Rose saying they liked Vinny but understand it's a business.

Taj started playing well in the preseason

How many rosters in the NBA can you not call half bad?

He has put in a lot of work with guys like Noah/Rose/Gordon/Deng. They've said as much. You can tell his relationship was different than Vinny's. Many times you would see him on the sidelines doing what Vinny was supposed to do.

Did he ever draw up an out of bounds play that worked? The play he called for Rose in Game 5 just added to this. It has been said by many that he didn't implement any of the ideas that he sold Paxson and Jerry on. They questioned him about this last year and going into this season and he never changed. His game management may have been worse than Lovie's. The fact that you are upset that he got fired is laughable. From the start it was obvious he was in over his head and would likely be fired before the summer of 2010. What free agent in their right mind would want to come play for Vinny? If Vinny called you and asked you to come to Chicago you would likely laugh.
