No. I've seen this act before and it hasn't worked out well. If he can bring LeBron or Wade and Bosh then I'm all for it. A monkey (Doc Rivers) could coach that team to an NBA championship.

I would rather have him over some of the names mentioned with the job.

Sorry to disappoint you, but John Calipari's not reuniting with Derrick Rose here in Chicago. The University of Kentucky is reportedly already planning to rework Calipari's contract that'll keep him in Lexington for many years to come.

He's not the sexiest name by any means, but your next Bulls' head coach is currently in the NBA Playoffs. While it remains to be seen if Glenn "Doc" Rivers would want to leave the Boston Celtics to come home to Chicago, Tom Thibodeau has something the Bulls want in their next head coach. They're looking for someone with a defensive background, and Thibodeau's name was mentioned 2 years ago before Uncle Jerry hired Vinny Del Negro. They'd prefer someone with experience as a head coach, but here's the problem. If it costs the Bulls $2 million to hire and now fire VDN, what makes you think Uncle Jerry wants to hire someone likely asking anywhere from $4 to $6 million a year? A lot of these guys want to get paid, and Thibodeau wouldn't cost an arm and a leg...

Racist.

John Calipari is a pretty bad coach, and an awesome recruiter. He would do terribly in the NBA again, I would think.

Calipari had 4 NBA lottery picks on his team and couldn't even make the Final Four.

Much of his success is due to his ties with the shady to outright illegal side of college recruiting.

I don't see any player coming here because of him. Therefore, he's not really a good choice. There could be worse picks though.

FavreFan, while Calipari has been successful on the college level, what do he, Jerry Tarkanian, Lon Kruger, Mike Montgomery, Rick Pitino & Tim Floyd have in common? All of these coaches got paid a lot of $$$$, and each of them bellyflopped in the NBA.

Jerry Tarkanian...San Antonio Spurs
Lon Kruger....Atlanta Hawks
Tim Floyd....Chicago Bulls
Rick Pitino....New York Knicks
Mike Montgomery....Golden St. Warriors
John Calipari....New Jersey Nets

Yet another thing that drives me crazy about the NBA... Teams want to skimp on an experienced HC to save a few million dollars, yet stiffs like Jerome James are handed $10+ mil per year contracts to sit on the end of the bench.

Kentucky's John Calipari denies interest in Bulls job

Wednesday, May. 5, 2010 - 11:25 a.m. ET
Kentucky coach John Calipari says he will remain exactly that: Kentucky coach.

"I'm happy here," Calipari told Sporting News on Wednesday. "I've got one of the best jobs in the world right here. It's a very difficult job that I have, but so is the job of coaching the Lakers, Notre Dame football. This one is the most difficult job that I've ever been in, but I'm loving it."

Calipari denied he is interested in becoming head coach of the NBA's Chicago Bulls. Citing NBA and NCAA sources, Yahoo! Sports reported Calipari is "intrigued" with the Bulls job and would listen to an approach from the team.

The Yahoo! report stated one reason Calipari would be interested in the Bulls is that he "hasn't connected" with the UK athletic administration during his time in Lexington.

UK responded by announcing it was in negotiations with Calipari to restructure his deal "so that he's the coach at Kentucky until he retires," AD Mitch Barnhart said in a statement.

"They want to do something that'll keep me here until I retire," Calipari said. "That's all good. I'm not out searching for jobs.

"When I was at Memphis and Mass, what happened every time a job opened? They had me involved. Well, they can't say that about any college job now.

"In hindsight, maybe we should have moved more quickly on this other stuff, but I'm going crazy out recruiting, and they're busy with other things."

Calipari is the highest paid coach in college basketball. He's starting the second year of an eight-year deal that averages nearly $4 million a season. Kentucky went 35-3 last season, losing in the Elite Eight.

Apologist, that's a huge part of what's wrong with NBA Basketball today. Jerome James was being paid $10+ million not to play with the Bulls before he was sent packin' near the end of the regular season...There are stiffs on every team paid not to play but to dress as if they're coaches on the bench. What the hell did Jack Haley do when he was here besides cheer Dennis Rodman when he was actually hustling for every rebound?

He was there to babysit Rodman because he was one of the few people in the NBA that Dennis would talk to. He was under contract so Rodman wouldn't go out some night and end up dead.

I know that his name has already been mentioned in a previous thread, but, of all the "candidates" I've heard so far, I'm kind-of partial to Tom Thibodeau. I just wonder if they'll give the job to someone with no experience again...

Hack, that's my pick, because I'm skeptical Uncle Jerry will really open up the wallet, contrary to what G.M. Gar Forman said in the press conference yesterday.

I guess not then. That would be a shitty situation though. I really dont like LeBron and I hate Calipari. It wouldnt be a particularly fun team to root for.

The problem with Vinny was not only did he have no head coaching experience, but he also had absolutely no assistant coaching experience.

A long time assistant is light years better than Steve Kerr's coffee retriever with the Suns.

Vinny Del Negro should have been an assistant FIRST with a NBA team before getting the Bulls' head coaching job.

I'm not really a Lebron fan either... I really haven't had an active rooting interest since the Jordan days, but I would have a hard time rooting for a LBJ team. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player... something about his demeanor irritates me.

There's a Cleveland sports radio host whose name escapes me who can't stand LeBron either, and it has a lot to do with the Yankees' cap he sports when not at the "Q" playing ball for the Cavs...

Jerry Reinsdorf's old enough to be everyone's uncle...That being said, STOP THE DAMN FANTASY!!! John Calipari's the head coach at the University of Kentucky, and is using the Chicago Bulls as leverage. HE'S NOT GOING ANYWHERE!!! Besides, Reinsdorf's NOT paying Calipari or any other veteran head coach on the market $4-6 million a year. The boss isn't stupid! Calipari failed with the Nets & the Celtics...I can just picture it now.

Calipari: "Michael Jordan's not coming through that door! Scottie Pippen's not coming through that door!"

Sorry to burst your bubble, Bear fans...Jay Cutler's not coming to Chicago! :( The Bears can express interest all they want in #6 in Denver blue & orange, but they don't have nearly enough in return to give the Broncos. I don't think two first-round picks will be enough compensation for Cutler. Your starting Bears' quarterback wears jersey #18, and it's not the guy who bowled at the CSFMB Bowling Event earlier this month. Kyle Orton will be the starting QB for the Bears come September 13th in Green Bay.
