Wow. Phil + Rose + Lebron + any veteran free agent seeking a ring to validate career = 3-6 more titles. Phil would go down as the greatest coach in any sport ever. |

How would this play out? Jackson wouldn't come back to Chicago unless James came, and the Bulls probably won't be able to talk until Jackson until late June. Jackson won't committ unless James does, and maybe vice-versa since some of the great players in the last 20 years love to play for him. I've also heard that the Cavs could be interested in Jackson as well. |

Here is how I see his future: 75% he stays wih LA 20% he retires. 5% he comes to Chicago He ain't going to Cleveland. |

Seems to me like he is using this as leverage to bump up that 5 million dollar offer from Buss. My guess is that this rumor started from Phil's people |

Jackson's folks will talk to James' folks about options. Wade, Bosh, and LeBron will all be talking before July 1. In no case, does Jackson committ anywhere without knowing what he's getting. They'll discuss it first. |

The report said he would be interested. I don't think one or the other needs to move first. If the Lakers don't win the title I think Phil could leave. |

I wouldnt totally discount Simmons idea of a Godfather offer coming from the Russian guy. He really doesnt seem to give a shit about money and I could see him offering Phil something completely absurd like $20 million/year. Phil is by far the best coach we would be able to get so I'd be all for it obviously. It would annoy me if he brings along his habit of not actually coaching in a series untill they lose 1-2 games first. |

Boilermaker Rick wrote: Wow. Phil + Rose + Lebron + any veteran free agent seeking a ring to validate career = 3-6 more titles. Whoa that thing. Phil is pretty old already and he's noticeably declined as a coach from the Lakers 3-peat days. LeBron's lost to what were supposed to be inferior teams two years in a row, and looked like a quitter against Boston. He hasn't even won an NBA Finals game yet. Rose hasn't gotten past the 2nd round and might never end up being better than Rondo in the East. Let's not go handing out NBA titles for the 2016 season quite yet. |

But Rose + LeBron + rest of Bulls will not necessarily be better than Rondo + Celtics cast. I was going with the assumption that when they played the Bulls would play more than 2 guys at a time and the C's would probably take the court with more than just Rondo. |

The Celtics wouldn't even be the biggest challenger. The Magic with Howard would be a bigger threat because the Allen/Pierce/Garnett era is ending quickly one way or another. |

Between Howard and James you're in a big hurry to concede the East for the next decade to two guys who, to put it generously, have questions about their playoff poise. The C's era will end very quickly, but they have Rondo locked up for Deng money for 5 years and it hasnt even kicked in yet. Ray, PP, + KG = Tons of cap room off the books. If Boston has even adequate management going forward they should be able to rebuild with only one, or none, bad years. But I really am not even arguing for the Celtics. You of all people should know how unstable sports teams/leagues are. You always kept criticizing me for saying the Packers have a franchise QB locked up for the next decade. WYC? |

When Kevin Garnett went down the Celtics lost to the Magic. The whole team looked lost for most of the year even with Rondo playing great. All of a sudden the 3 hall of famers wake up and the team looks great. My guess is that Lebron or Howard would have "playoff poise" if they were playing on the Celtics instead of Rondo. In fact, I'd guess that they would easily win the NBA title.FavreFan wrote: The C's era will end very quickly, but they have Rondo locked up for Deng money for 5 years and it hasnt even kicked in yet. Let's see if they find 3 hall of famers to put around Rondo again. I'm not trying to take something away from Rondo but there should be more questions about Rondo rather than Howard or Lebron. We know how good those two are. Rondo is a good player but isn't even the best player on the Celtics right now. He may not be in the top 3.FavreFan wrote: But I really am not even arguing for the Celtics. You of all people should know how unstable sports teams/leagues are. You always kept criticizing me for saying the Packers have a franchise QB locked up for the next decade. WYC? Not in the NBA. Superstars win titles. If you look back at the past 20 years, every player who has been considered the best player in the league has won at least two titles.Jordan, Ahkeem, Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, Duncan. There is room for others to sneak in but Lebron will join that list. Howard has a shot if he steps up his game but the next in line after that is likely Durant. The NFL changes really fast. The NBA doesn't. Whatever team Lebron goes to as long as it's not the two train wrecks in NY will be the favorites to win it all. If he gets a player like Rose or Wade to play with they'll be the overwhelming favorite. My guess is that Rondo will have a similar experience to Wade after the championship team disbanded even though Wade is a much better player than Rondo. I don't think Rondo is the best player on a championship team. Lebron definitely will be. Howard is closer but I don't think he's there right now. |

KG is on his last legs now and although Allen seems to have resurrected himself for the playoffs he's the same way. Rondo is clearly better than both and may possibly be better than Pierce |

Well right...but that sudden emergence is them summoning all of their strength for a few playoff rounds. Rondo has been playing that way all year. Consistency is important too..I suppose you can make the point that the regular season isn't all that important, but you do need players who can actually play at a high level for more than 10 games |
