The Chicago Tribune reported that Pete Myers was told by Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau he will not be returning as the assistant coach next season.

Myer was the last left of Vinny Del Negro's staff and the move is very surprising, considering Meyers coached the team in the Vegas summer-league.

He has been with the organization for 11 years as an assistant or scout and served as interim coach for two games in 2003 when Bill Cartwright was fired and once again in 2007 for one game after Scott Skiles was fired, before Jim Boylan took over for the remainder of the season.

Drafted by the Bulls back in 1986, Myers spent three of his eight NBA seasons with Chicago.

His relationship with the core of the team is second to none.

According to the Tribune, Myers could stay with the team in a front-office capacity.

Why would they have him coach the summer league team if they weren't bringing him back? Very strange.

I always liked the guy, and it seemed like he had a better connection with the guys than Vinny did the last two years.

Very strange story. Really came out of nowhere. But I guess Thibodeau wants to do away with anything that may make the players comfortable or complaisant. It's still strange, though, cause he wasn't a Del Negro guy or anything. He's more of a Paxon or Jerry guy. I'm surprised they were ok with it...

I really is a strange story. As a Bulls fan I never knew they drafted him. I always thought of him as the guy that replaced MJ. Pete seemed to really have the ear of the young players. I guess this is a power grab by Thib and I don't really like it. I think Pete was one of those guys that is a great assistant but could never coach a team.

I like Meyers and the players seemed to really like him but I have no problem with it. Thibodeau should be able to have who he wants on his staff.

K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reported on Wednesday night that head coach Tom Thibodeau made a surprise move to his staff by dismissing Pete Myers.

Myers may now get a position in the front office, according to Johnson.

Myers played for Thibodeau when he was an assistant for the Knicks. Myers also coached the Bulls' summer league team is known to be well-liked and respected by Chicago's players.

Hence why it's a surprising move.

Johnson reported via a source that Thibodeau has already contacted candidates to replace Myers.

It's possible Myers dismissal could have an adverse affect on Chicago's roster of players that carried over from last season. But with many new faces on the team via free agency and Myers likely sticking around the organization by acquiring a front-office position, it likely won't be that big of an issue.

I'm sorry to read this. Myers was the Larry Rothschild of the Bulls. Did he clean house with the rest of the staff?

He was the only one left, from what I've read...

Except he was actually good at his job. I really don't get the reputation Rothschild has around the league.

I was wondering because one assistant was from the Chicago area. He got hired right out of a gym from what I heard. I forgot his name.

I read Bernie was hired elsewhere this week, but I can't remember what team. I think Randy Brown is still an assistant.

I thought he technically wasn't an assitant coach. Can't remember the title given to him but something about player development I think...

Bernie was hired by his former floor general, Nate McMillan.

he was probably well liked but underperformed. most employees are more worried about who is friends is who rather then who does the best job. im glad our new coach has a firm grip on reality.

Oh great, as if potential free agents needed another reason not to come play for the Bulls. There's that damn disloyalty to former players rearing its ugly head once again. Whose next to go? Wennington?

Earlier this week in Las Vegas, Derrick Rose lobbied for the Bulls to sign Tracy McGrady. It's apparent they're not going to bring in the oft-injured small forward and Rose says he's not disappointed with the decision.

"No, not really," Rose told the Chicago Sun-Times. "Like I said before anything, I'm cool with the team I have right now. I think we have good youth on the team. We should be all right. If [McGrady] comes or if he doesn't, we should be able to compete out there. That's up to the Bulls."

Rose was disappointed Thursday with the news that Pete Myers will no longer be part of the coaching staff.

"It hurts a little bit, but he should be somewhere around," Rose said. "Pete is a guy, if it wasn't for him, I don't know where I'd be in this league. He's always there and brings a lot to the organization."

What is your evidence that he is a good coach?

The players he takes under his wing always get better. All you have to do is listen to the players. In recent years they've praised him more than the coaches.

Derrick Rose also said Vinny Del Negro is a good coach. Should I take his word on that as well?

He didn't really say that. He was asked about Vinny while he was still the coach. There wasn't anything else he could say. It's not like he is Charles Oakley. You don't even have to ask the players about Pete Myers and they will still talk about him.

Rose didn't just say Del Negro should keep his job. He said that he learned a lot about the game from him...from Vinny Del Negro!

Similarly, when Dick Jauron was hired as the Bears head coach, he had a veritable chorus line of former players singing his praises. How did that work out for them?

So forgive me if I question the value of player endorsements for coaches.
