NBCSports.com reporting:

Pulling a page from the hockey playoffs playbook — Injury? What injury? — the Chicago Bulls did do an MRI on Derrick Rose’s left ankle (they denied they would) after he aggravated it Monday night on the final play of the Bulls loss to the Hawks.

And the news isn’t good according to David Kaplan of CSN Chicago.

Sources told me that Rose suffered a Grade 2 sprain of one of the main ligaments on the outside of his ankle and it could affect his mobility for Game 2 on Wednesday evening. He will be treated with several different methods and is expected to start when the Bulls try to even the series.

A Grade 2 sprain means a partial tearing of the ligament, which usually means a lot of swelling, there is a decreased range of motion and more instability in the ankle.

Rose did participate in the Bulls practice Tuesday and reported no swelling.

Rose is going to play, make no mistake.

But as we pointed out before, this injury is impacting Rose’s play.

Rose shot 49 free throws in the three playoff games before he first sprained his ankle in Game 4 against the Pacers. In the last three games it is 11 total, trips to the line, including zero in the Bulls Game 1 loss to the Hawks.

Rose is not as explosive and not driving into players to draw contact like he did before. This sprain will mean worse lateral movement as well.

Rose is going to be named the league MVP Tuesday because he carried the Bulls offense through the regular season. If he can’t carry it in the playoffs, the Bulls have some serious problems.

Grade 2 and he isn't sitting on the bench crying? Interesting.

I'm not sure what to think...ESPNChicago.com says that D.Rose won't necessarily undergo an MRI on the left ankle sprain. Once again, it looked pretty bad at the end of last night's game when Derrick was noticeably limping and the Bulls' medical team followed him to the locker room area as the clock hit :00.0. I'll be interested to find out if D.Rose limps noticeably come 4p when the NBA officially names him the 2010-11 Most Valuable Player. Most of the time, there's no back-to-backs in the NBA Playoffs, but if Game 2 were today instead of tomorrow, I'm not so sure D.Rose is a go. There's so much at stake though.

Exactly why Boers & Bernstein said on their show (a few weeks ago)"little guys" don't take their teams to championships too often.

He twisted his ankle and then reinjured i by stepping on the back of another players shoe on accident.

Does the above never happen to players that aren't considered "little"?

Supposedly? When has Boozer had this "Stuff" happen to him all the time? Again, he twisted his ankle, it happens. When you change direction quickly and drive hard to the basket it is bound to happen.

Has Kobe never twisted an ankle? Has anyone not 6 ft 3 and below ever twisted an ankle while coming down on someones foot?

I will be the first to admit that there are plenty of guys on here that have 100x more NBA knowledge then me. I also see Derrick Rose losing his "legs" on jump shots usually late in the game. Terry & Dan said the beating will take it's toll on him & I agreed. The talented "Bigs" who lead their teams get hurt too,but usually are not dribbling full speed to the basket from the 3-point line.

give me a fuckin break and dont make this out to be more then it is. he is 22, he is not worn out. he has a sprained ankle, that will effect his play. his team also is playing like shit, so there goes that title wish right there.

just the fact that he is the whole team pretty much solidifies my belief in him. all he needs to do is hit more shots... and i am very confident he will in the coming years.

and what im worried about is miami getting more people next year and after that. if/when they do, i dont really care how good rose is, he wont beat miami unless lebron/wade gets hurt.
