Found a rumor that says Bulls will be matching. Ugh... why? http://www.opposingviews.com/i/sports/nba/bulls/nba-rumors-bulls-match-omer-asiks-rockets-offer-sheet Quote: NBA Rumors: Bulls to Match Omer Asik's Rockets Offer Sheet?
According to Rant Sports blogger, Riley Schmitt, the Chicago Bulls will match the offer sheet signed by Omer Asik from the Houston Rockets. This means that the Bulls will retain Asik, therefore he is going nowhere. The Bulls will tag-on Asik's new backloaded 3-year $24.3 million dollar contract. With the removals of C.J. Watson and Ronnie Brewer (and most likely soon-to-be Kyle Korver) from the roster enough cap space and cap flexibilty was made by the Bulls to be able to take back Asik. Omer will be expected to return to the back-up center position in the rotation. However, if the Bulls are willing to pay him somewhere in the realm of $14 million dollars in the third and final year of his contract, they obviously are in love with the guy and believe that he will continue to develop and nudge further and further in the depth chart. This move still keeps the Bulls in good shap regarding the second unit's familiarity. Something that's important. The 7-foot Turkish native averaged about 3 points and 5 rebounds last season. Asik started two games during the regular season and three in the playoffs. |

I don't know about you guys, but the NBA contracts are starting to look silly (i.e. ones based on new labor agreement). Apparently to control spending restricted free agents could only be offered so much in the first two years so competing teams have to add back loaded, longer term contracts like the Omer deal to get around this. You've got this crazy luxury tax, an amnesty clause, strange mid-level exceptions, and limits on what you can offer free agents. I can't believe are complicated this has all gotten (ir was bad before). I fear that NBA teams are just going to hand over money to the limited free agent pool each year and rob themselves of any depth. The mid level exceptions and veterans minimums (like Hinrichs) will mean you get a few good players and the rest will be junk. I don't like where this is headed. |

its not that the bulls think hes worth the money, but as an asset he is. if you let him go and dont have someone at least as good as him around for when someone you REALLY want comes available, you wont have any pieces to deal with. pax has said this before guys... its not only about what a player can produce on any given night, its what his market value is going forward. and asik is going to be making a little money because he is not a bad player. |

If they can turn his last year, expiring deal into a deal for a guy with 2-3 years on the deal, that's the payout on this deal. |

Omer is my guy. I think he could be worth 5-6 mil per season. I think he can become one of the top defenders at his position in the league. This deal is kind of scary though. Taj is going to get an even bigger contract next season, and they will probably match that too. Where is there going to be money to acquire anyone via free agency? They already have Rose, Boozer, and Noah tied up long term, and also 2 years are left on Deng's contract. This was a deal they should have just let go. |

Good points DB. The only way this team gets better is if the players they currently have improve. They have no money to acquire better talent, and most likely, will lose whatever depth they had last year. |

Yeah. His salary is listed as $5.3 million for 99-00. Hersey Hawkins got $4.1, John Starks got $4 million, and Elton Brand got $3.375. Money well spent. |

Better off letting Omer walk and tanking the season. 4 or 5 of the top 6 draft picks next year will likely be Centers. |

The Eastern Conference is so bad after the NBA Champion Heat, the Bulls can still be a playoff team this year, even if Derrick Rose doesn't play 1 minute. |

I am not really in favor of matching the deal for Omer. But is there a chance the Bulls are looking long term here and figuring they will end up dumping Boozer and Noah and making a run at trying to get someone like Kevin Love? Love seems to be losing patience in Minnesota and has stated if they don't make some improvements he will look to leave. I don't like the idea of waiting more for the possiblity of getting another big name, but if it does result in a combo of Rose and Love it would be worth it. |

What does it matter if they make the playoffs and Rose doesnt play. They arent winning a championship without him. Why the fuck would anyone care about making the playoffs as the 8 seed and getting swept by the Heat in the first round. |

Speaking of Kevin Love, RFDC, when Jason Goff guest hosted Laurence Holmes' nighttime SCORE Monday night, he had Jarrod Russell of realgm.com on the show. I was under the impression that Love signed an extension in Minnesota, but Jarrod hinted that Kev could be one of those guys to keep an eye on. Speaking of the Timberwolves, there are rumblings that Kyle Korver might soon be dealt there in a salary cap move. |

Quite frankly, I don't know who the second best team in this conference is right now as long as Derrick Rose is sidelined. |

How the hell should I know? The Bulls might not be bad enough to be a Lottery Team. That's my point... |
