Post subject:  Korver sign and trade

I saw the Bulls are shopping around Korver possibly to the Timberwolves for Luke Ridinour. I think that is to keep the equilibrium of white guys on the team. Aren't Hinrich and Ridinour pretty much the same guy except Ridinour can shoot a bit better and Hinrich can defend a bit better?

http://chicago.sbnation.com/chicago-bulls/2012/7/12/3154560/bulls-trade-rumors-luke-ridnour-kyle-korver

The Chicago Bulls are still waiting on the Houston Rockets to sign Omer Asik to an offer sheet, and they have yet to announce their deal with Kirk Hinrich, but they've been staying busy in the interim of the 2012 NBA Free Agency period. The team is "likely" going to deal Kyle Korver to the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to a report from Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Sunday is the deadline for the team to pick up it's $5 million option on Korver, which is is an event that seems contingent on finding a trade partner.

The rumored deal with the Timberwolves brings up the issue of what the Bulls might get in return, and K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune says the target is ultimately unclear, but he cites a league source that says the Bulls have asked about veteran point guard Luke Ridnour:

One league source said the Bulls inquired about Luke Ridnour, who would seem to duplicate Hinrich and also add another year of salary. However, Ridnour's $4.32 million salary expires in 2014 at a time when the Bulls could make major changes with Hinrich's and Luol Deng's deals ending and the amnesty provision likely being used on Carlos Boozer.

Ridnour is a proven commodity that could help Hinrich steer the offense while Derrick Rose recovers, as the 31-year-old has posted solid numbers over the last three seasons, highlighted by a 17.7 PER and 57.0 TS% with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2009-10.

The cap is going to make the Bulls lose all their depth, and they will be hamstrung for a long time. The back half of this roster is going to suck.....

Yeah not sure why we need Ridinour if we got Hinrich.

Yeah, we don't want people taking valuable minutes away from Brian Scalabrine.....

Acquiring Ridnour makes no sense to me. I'm fine with having Capt Kirk steer the ship, and Teague getting some experience right away coming off the bench. Another PG isn't needed. When Derrick gets back, everyone moves down the bench.

DB, I think Nash is posing for you in his Lakers jersey. He is hot and ready in SoCal for a DB.

I would much rather try to get an athletic wing in case Jimmy Butler has a case of the sucks at basketball

The Timberwolves reportedly have stepped up their efforts to land Nicolas Batum, with an offer that involves sending two future first-round draft choices to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for the free-agent forward, ESPN.com reported Wednesday night, July 11.

The trade would involve a third team, the Chicago Bulls, ESPN.com reported, attributing the proposed trade to a league source. The Bulls would send shooting guard Kyle Korver to Portland, and they would get a second-round draft pick from Minnesota, the source said.

That's why I would have loved to see Ronnie Brewer back this year. But they have to see what Butler can do. He played well last year in limited minutes.

Yeah I get that. I understand why you have to let Brewer go and see what you have in Butler. At least he was able to shut down Carmelo for a game. I read somewhere else that the Bulls might have some interest in CJ Miles who is pretty much Ronnie Brewer 2.0. Probably can't afford him though.

They can't afford anyone, which was my point about depth. They have no money and I believe they can only sign people at the veteran minimum.

Trade everyone but Rose for one year of Dwight Howard. He leaves after this season, and the Bulls go ape shit in free agency next year with tons of money to spend.

Everyone says that the Bulls have painted themselves into a corner with overpaying all of these guys. So trade them all. This season is already thrown away since Rose is out. So who gives a shit. Get Howard to sell tickets. Tank the season and/or trade him to the Nets at the deadline for 12 first round picks. Get a lottery pick in the next draft, get Rose back, be a big player in the free agent market for good players and see if you can win in 2014.

Because getting Howard who is only signed through the one season that Rose is out is dumb. And the Bulls can sell tickets even when they suck.

I'm confused why it matters. The Bulls as presently constructed look less and less likely to ever win a title. They are maxed out salary wise to really add an impact player they need. So why don't they need to start over again? Trading for Howard will allow that to happen. The Bulls aren't winning next year, so who cares whether they trade Noah and Deng and whomever else for him. And they could always trade Howard at the deadline for extra draft picks or maybe a quality player.

Seems to me like the Bulls can either stand pat and lose every year. Or they can try this again. Since their star player is out for the year, why not do something radical this season when expectations are low? No reason they wouldn't be able to compete at the same level with an overhauled roster in 2013-2014 when Rose is healthy and people will expect the Bulls to be good again.

They had one chance at a title, didnt get it, so break up the team!

Man sports fans can be pretty stupid when it comes to evaluating their teams.

Vegas still has the Bulls as 5 to 1 to win the NBA Finals next season. Clearly not EVERYBODY thinks that way. Luckily.

So I am guessing you don't think the playoffs this year play out differently if Rose is healthy? The old ass Celtics just pushed The Heat to 7 games....Even if you found a way to trade for Howard and keep him Rose and Howard and a bunch of scrubs are not a better team than Rose and Deng and Noah and Gibson and Scalabrine. Dwight Howard is soft and can't be trusted at the end of close games.

I would have liked to have seen them trade Deng for Harrison Barnes, tank the season and then get another lottery pick therein also getting more cap space.

The Bulls only chance is if Rose is 100% back for the playoffs and the rest of the crew get better. The roster will be a net negative from 2011/2012, so the remaining players must improve their games.

They should trade Korver for a backup center.

There was talk about a Bulls' sign & trade with Kyle Korver going to Minnesota, but the Trib's K.C. Johnson now reports that's no longer the case.

Korver's been dealt to Atlanta; possibly a S/T with Hinrich (according to KCJ)

K.C. Johnson tweets that the Bulls won't have to pay $500,000 had they waived Korver's non-guaranteed $5 million contract.

They save their MLE too. Smart move. Would have like "Hot Sauce" to stick around though but not at that price.

Saving that MLE could be key. Can get another wing....or a big if you let Omer walk.
