Buddy of mine says he read that "Melo was seen coming out of Bulls family room after a brief friendly talk with Joakim.....all smiles ear to ear.......and just after his team gets slapped around." He is convinced this means Melo is coming to the Bulls. I think he is crazy. I do not think Thibs and Melo could coexist together. |

Melo is a loser, though I'd welcome him with open arms if Rose never got injured. See, FavreFan? Vegan's not all about the scoring. |

Post game around the family areas are a complete madhouse. Extended family, immediate family, friends who think they are family, GF's, ex GFS, new GFS... No way Noah is talking to Melo about anything there. |

I can understand the thought of not wanting him at all. But I would kinda like to see it just to watch the show. If we are not winning a championship with this group it might as well be interesting to see Thibs rip Melos head off in the middle of a game. |

Yes but then why would you lock yourself into his deal, or give up assets, if he's not moving you forward? He's probably the most disappointing player since Vince Carter - all this fanfare, talent, and hype, but basically zero postseason accomplishments. |

He's a selfish player that thinks about only himself. The Bulls have "team" guys. |

I want him. I think he's the only possibly player we could get in the next couple of years that would elevate us to possibly being the best team in the league. He's probably the 2nd best pure scorer in the league right now behind Durant. He was with a decent coach(Karl) in Denver and made the playoffs every year and played really well rounded in their 2009 run to the WCF. He's never played with a coach who demanded discipline and defensive excellence, so I don't know that it's fair to say he isn't willing to be a good defender. He's certainly shown flashes that he's capable before. He's also one of the best rebounding SF's in the league so I wouldn't call him one dimensional. If he didn't ball hog, refuse to play defense, and alienate his teammates here, I think we could definitely win a championship with him, and I don't think it's fair to assume that he would do those things. Situation and circumstance define players as much as anything in the NBA. Remember when LeBron was a choke artist who quit in the playoffs multiple times? Players evolve. It's worth the risk considering the surrounding talent we have here and the lack of another feasible way to win a championship in the next couple years. |

I could see him doing a 180 & become a better team player. IDK if he'd play too well on defense, but he might try a little. The Bulls could use his scoring, & they don't need Rose trying to carry everything on his own broken legs. |

Wait - is this outlook inclusive or not of Rose? For me forget about Melo if Rose turns into post surgery Penny, or if that's what they expect. Melo only makes sense alongside a revitalized Rose. |

Rose isn't going anywhere, so the Bulls need to hope he can come back somewhere close to his former self. Adding Melo would only make Derrick's life easier. |

So assuming they do sign Melo and amnesty Boozer, would they be able to keep the rest of the core together? Rose Butler Melo Taj Noah What about Mirotic? |

Post subject: | Re: Melo |
Im assuming Rose will never return to All Star form, so my thoughts are with that in mind. I would trade him ASAP for an expiring contract if I could. If we are stuck with him, which I believe we are, then hopefully he beats the odds and comes back and at a comparable level to what we've seen. This team with an engaged Melo could win the title I think though. I don't think it would affect bringing over Mirotic, and Noah, Butler, and Taj are here throughout at least next season. |

I've read even when they amnesty Boozer they'd still have to trade Taj to get Melo. No way to get Mirotic next year with him. Quote: One issue is even if the Bulls use the amnesty provision on Carlos Boozer, they won't have anywhere close to enough salary-cap space to offer Anthony a maximum contract. It would take the Bulls making go-for-broke moves like they did in 2010, when they traded Kirk Hinrich into Wizards' salary-cap space and took nothing in return for a run at LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. With next summer's salary cap projected at roughly $62 million, the Bulls could have roughly $10.7 million of salary-cap space if Boozer's $16.8 million deal is off their books. The exact number depends on how many first-round picks they add depending on whether the protections on their Bobcats' and Kings' picks come to fruition or not. Thus, it would take a trade of, say, Taj Gibson's $8 million salary to a team with enough cap space to absorb it outright for the Bulls to make a competitive offer to Anthony. Even trading Mike Dunleavy would only get the Bulls to a possible $14 million of cap space this summer. Quote: The issue, it seems, is Mirotic's buyout, which is reportedly around $3.44 million, of which the Bulls are limited to paying $600,000 (anything more counts against the cap, in that if the Bulls pay Mirotic a large first-year salary it can go towards the buyout. If he signed for the mid-level exception he'd be playing on a substantial pay-cut from what he's making in Spain). Forman called the buyout "prohibitive" and Paxson said it's "a significant issue for one more year".
