Bulls to get first shot at wooing Melo Quote: Carmelo Anthony is planning to meet with the Chicago Bulls in Chicago on the opening day of free agency after the NBA's offseason market officially opens Tuesday at 12:01 a.m., according to sources familiar with Anthony's plans. Sources told ESPN.com that Anthony is in the process of arranging a trip to Chicago to meet with the Bulls, then intends to travel to Texas for Wednesday meetings with both the Houston Rockets and the Dallas Mavericks. Sources say Anthony is likely to visit the Rockets first on Wednesday, followed by the Mavericks in the afternoon. Carmelo Anthony will have his hands full as he plans trips to Chicago, Houston, Dallas and Los Angeles to kick off free agency, according to sources. Anthony, who maintains an offseason home in Los Angeles, is also expected to meet with the Los Angeles Lakers face-to-face next week. Also, Bulls are said to have interest in Chandler Parsons. |

I think Elton Brand would be a nice addition for the veteran minimum. He could backup Taj and Noah. I believe that the Bulls have to bring Augustin back as an insurance option for Rose and Kirk would probably be open to coming back and backing up Butler for the veteran minimum. |

Melo is staying in New York. He is simply using the Bulls as leverage so he can dictate terms to Phil. |

I keep hearing very dumb things , things like Hinrich back for another year..deng back too, say it ain't so. |

Deng won't be back. Hinrich coming back for the minimum won't hurt. They have to have 13 players and right now they have 7 or 8. |

Couldn't he just tell Phil "give me the max with a player opt out before the last year or I walk"? I don't see what the Bulls would have to do with that. Houston is also willing to give Melo the max. |

I believe that he is talking about the extra year and $30M total. Which really comes out to about $5M considering no one else can offer that extra year. |

But I don't see what that has to do with using other teams as leverage. Melo doesn't need to do that. If he wants a max contract he will get it from someone. Phil knows that. |

He could have it written in a way that allows him to opt out after 2 years. He isn't really losing $ 30M it's somewhere around $5M. That won't get in the way of him trying to win a championship. |

I'm talking more about getting assurances in terms of how the roster will be developed. |

Phil can't guarantee Melo anything beyond he will work hard to find talent to put around him. From bringing in a young coach to dumping Chandler it looks like the Knicks want to start over. |

I'm more interested in how you believe that opting out this season would provide Melo with leverage on future roster decisions. As I said earlier the only thing that the Knicks can do is promise Melo that they will work hard to put talent around him. I'm sure they will but they can't guarantee him what players or how long it would take. If he opted out next season he would have had leverage when it came to roster decisions because they would have a lot of cap space. |

I don't like Parsons as an option at all. You already have 2 guys on the roster that can give you 75% of what he brings at a fraction of his price. And one of them is a rookie you paid a lot for and are looking to develop. Allocate resources elsewhere: make Lance an offer he can't refuse. He upgrades the 2 way more than Parsons upgrades the 3. I like Brand as an option too. Need some big depth. |

I know he's restricted, but if you miss out on Melo and Love why not take a run a Hayward? |
