I haven't been more excited about the start of a NBA season since 1997. This meaningless game is more important than Monday night football. The Bulls defense put on a show at the end of the first half. Rose looks like most of the rust is gone and Jimmy Butler looks like he's ready to make the All Defensive 1st Team this year.

He's looked pretty good the past couple of games. He's moved beyond missing layups. Watching them comeback from 21 down in the first half got me excited.

Jimmy Butler is quickly becoming my favorite player. Energy, effort and attitude. I know his shot is inconsistent but his defense and toughness are there every game. I'll take that over the supposed shooters like Hinrich and Dunleavy that bruise the rim more than they twinkle the twines.

I love his defense and energy too but I love him more when he makes shots.

Agreed. I'm not saying I think he's a great player. I just like his demeanor. That shot of him bumping heads with Nene last year illustrated what guys like Boozer lacked.

Butler is good if he is your worst offensive starter, a Tony Allen-light type of player. If you need him to get you more than 10-12 points, you're gonna have a bad time(and he's gonna shoot less than 30 percent from 3 again)

I love that about him. I'll take guys like him every day of the week over the Boozer's of the world.

Not really since he averaged over 13 pts/g last season.

Which would be more than 10-12, and which helps illustrate my point. Thanks!

Huh? are you expecting him to regress? Otherwise I'm not sure what point you've illustrated.

I believe he's saying Butler is a great player to have as long as you aren't counting on him to score 13+ points a game. Why? Because he's a poo4 shooter and his scoring should be gravy.

In that case I agree. I guess I was thrown by the 10-12 stat since he surpassed that last season. Given that he has steadily improved his average in each season I don't consider his scoring to be that much of a concern.

Quoting ppg average is useless without context. He was thrust into a significantly bigger role last season and his efficiency significantly declined. I think that's related. If you don't that's fine, and considering the sample size that's equally fair as my opinion.

Better shooter- Rose or Butler?

Butler would start on a lot of teams. He looks like a guy who plays for food. Play hard or dont eat. Its kind of true.

Right, but like others said, anything he provides - whether 10 or 15 points - is fine so as long as you're not dependent on him to provide that scoring. The moment you begin to require Jimmy Butler to score consistently in order for you to win is also the moment you should begin planning your season's funeral.

Doug McDermott will be starting before the all star break. Thibs continues to allow him to play with the starters and he's delivering.
