Those must be computer calculations, and based heavily on very recent events, because no rational human being would put the Raptors (or anyone from the Atlantic) ahead of the Wizards. Likewise, Orlando has no business in front of Detroit.

I like Hollinger, he brings a different perspective, but at times his work can be a bit nonsensical. You can learn a lot from stats, but in many cases, they should be given the sniff test before they’re published.

His explanation is essentially what you said, Bucket.
The ranking attempt to capture how hot the team is right now, and how the scoring margin is a better indicator than wins & losses.

It's the BCS for the NBA.
