That was a crappy PP. Mercy. Hawks look like they might be lucky to get 1 point tonight after a great 1st period.

This is definitely a thing. Hawks were totally gassed, it looked like Andrew Brunette mode. Yet they gutted it out on defense and Crawford played well enough to get the 2 points. That was another rough game to watch. I'm hoping 2 days off will give the Hawks some fresher legs to come out flying vs the Wild.

Hawks are going to catch Minnesota at a great time. The Hawks will be 2nd in a back-to-back and the Wild's 3rd game in 4 nights.

Thought the Hawks would put up three or four goals with the way they dominated the first period. Howard is not that good and the Wings defense is suspect. If the Hawks were not so gassed, I wonder if it would have been as close.

- Shaw probably had a better game than I am aware of, but the few times he was visible on the broadcast, he looked like he was lost.
- Crawford played well.
- Still too many turnovers by the Hawks in their own zone. Hope its just being tired, but even in the first period there was one by Toews that almost led to a goal.
- I can't wait till Saad has matured a year. Looks like a solid addition to this team.
- Kruger had a lot of faceoff wins early.
- I'm predicting some tough times on this road trip. Hopefully I am wrong. This is definitely a playoff team.

They can't lean on him all season. He can't start 47 games this season. Emery... Oh boy I wish we had aa better backup.

Observations from Section 324

-Seabrook still looks rusty. Not worried going forward, but even his passing isn't crisp. Multiple breakouts were ruined because he's not hitting a winger on the tape.

-Bolland and Hossa? I think needed to bury those early chances. Game should have been over early. Finally officially accepted and enjoying that Bolland not in an Indian Head sweater would be public enemy #1 if we were playing him approaching Barret Jackman type levels. He's crafty for sure, like with his move with the stick on the PK the other night, but also decently dirty w/ the spear on the 5 on 3.

-Bickell is noticeable every shift and it's for good reasons. Smart plays with the puck, using his body, skating hard. No beat writer has really discussed/analyzed it, but pretty damning to Q how much Bickell is crediting his coach in Europe for improving his game.

-The depth of this team is slightly reminiscent of 2010. Not saying that they have a guy like Andrew Ladd playing largely 3rd line minutes, but Frolik, Kruger, Bickell, have been just short of great so far this year. Stalberg too had a really nice game. Looks dangerous every time he touches the puck.

-When Saad get his first goal, they are going to come in bunches. Very noticeable on the ice again

-Hjalmarsson looking like his old self more and more. Makes me wonder if they were concealing an injury all last year. Looks like a different guy so far.

-Brookbank should probably buy a butt pillow for the press box.

-Amazing PK work tonight combined with the fact that Detroit just isn't all that good. Frolik and Kruger were great on the kill though. Less dumb penalties though please. Really kept the icetime down for 8 and 88 while giving 2 and 7 heaviest minutes of the year.

-Fun to embrace my inner meatball participating in a few Detroit Sucks chants. Not ashamed to admit it.

-All that said, team was outplayed for a good period and a half+. The penalties certainly played a large part of it, but legs looked tired and Detroit tried to take advantage. This game a couple years ago or even last year is a 3-1 type loss. Speaks to the play of Crawford, depth of this team but also that Detroit is definitely on a downward trend.

Upcoming road trip is going to be kind of a bitch. Wild are playing decent. Fuck Vancouver. San Jose looking very good, Yotes and Preds never easy games. Happy Calgary is in there. Regardless of the 6-0 start, 3 wins on this trip where you are playing 6 games in 12 days and you are dancing back to the UC.

I don't see it. I seem to never notice him. Maybe I'm just bad at watching sports.

I'm starting to think so too. He looks even better than his 2010 self.

-Brookbank should probably buy a butt pillow for the press box.

From what I've seen, Rozsival is clearly the better #6. The only reasonable conclusion I can come to is that Q is going to split time with him and Brookbank to keep him fresh. It's not like he's 40 years old though, I don't know.

The Wild are probably going to be better than what they look like right now. I think 2 days off is going to do wonders for the Hawks and they'll be able to play a more complete game than their last 2 efforts. Vancouver can blow me. Calgary is bad. San Jose looks like incredible so far. Thornton and Marleau look like they're playing a video game. Yotes are mediocre, fuck their system. Preds are always a tough game.

Hah, his end will probably come in a car accident after a night of drinking. Until then, enjoy the madness.

Decent analysis above. It is tough to get all that from a typical tv broadcast because you miss seeing the entire ice. One thing that was weird last night was that trapping attack Detroit used to smother the Hawks in their own end. I haven't seen many teams consistently have three players pressuring the defensemen in their own end. It was certainly a gamble, but it caused the Hawks all sorts of problems with clearing the puck.

I am not as optimistic about Saad as described above. He looks a little lost at times, and I suspect Coach Q will drop him line wise.

I don't think he's been lost at all. Spatially, he's been a very effective part of the scoring line, he just isn't scoring. But he can't not score forever.

Bolland should be more people's favorite player. I love the way he celebrates goals by not celebrating in any way.

Rozsival out with a knee injury, probably aggravating the one Dustin Brown gave him last May. I would rather see Dylan Olsen, Ryan Stanton, Adam Clendening, or a ham sandwich than Sheldon Brookbank.

Gotta consider it a good sign when the team looks so bad that Frolik is noticeably the best forward and they're still able to suck out a win vs a good opponent. Now let's not make a habit of it.

This 2 day break couldn't have come at a better time.

Pens had basically the same game yesterday against Ottawa (2-1 OT shootout win) as Hawks. It happens so no reason to panic.

I've been saying "put Bolland at #2 center" for so long now and finally I am vindicated.
