Breakfast schemeakfast. Breakfasts come and go but Hartford, the Whale, only beats Vancouver like once or twice in a lifetime.

They could have finished that much earlier but as always I will take the 2.

Hugely disappointing game. The Hainsey goal in particular was inexcusable. That was an AHL team out there and it took a 1-0 shootout to win it.

I don't think there's been a goalie the Hawks have faced who hasn't looked like a world-beater. Even Kevin Poulin!

Yeah, I don't know why they're not closing games out. I am not going to blame this on the loss of Michael Frolik. But this team, as constructed, is missing something. It feels like they're in an extended preseason, trying out role-players and coasting at times. Maybe it'll just take some time for this team to solidify.

You guys are way too worried about a team that only didn't get points in one game.

Maybe so. But take away shootouts and empty nets, and every game has been a one-goal or zero-goal game:

Washington: +1
Tampa Bay: 0
St. Louis: -1
Long Island: +1
Buffalo: +1
Carolina: 0

That's not really an impressive bunch of teams to start the year. St. Louis is a Cup contender, the Isles are a dark horse, and the rest suck. You have to step on some throats pretty soon. One-goal outcomes and shootouts have a way of evening themselves out in the end.

Ok, ok...
It's just really early to be wiggin to me I guess. They're also good at stepping up to their competition. Let's see what happens when they play some great teams too. I'll wait until mid November before I see a personality in this team.

I'm not wiggin'. I came into the year with a pretty good understanding that there'd be a protracted feeling-out process with the roster and that they weren't going to replicate the blastoff they had last year -- remember that the Hawks had a significant jump on retooled rosters and system teams by not needing time to jell. But it does give me a little pause that they're making such a habit of booting late leads and ties. Fortunately, like you said, they've only failed to get points in one game, and with all the interconference games, the only points they've given in the Western standings were the two to St. Louis.

Sorry. Perhaps "wiggin" was a poor choice of words on my part.

I will say this... I'm not one bit pleased with Khabi. That looks like a very bad idea. Bickell seems like a very bad idea. I didn't appreciate Frolik because he didn't play up to my expectations on offense but he was a great Killer which they're lacking.
I am concerned about Handzus too. Too slow...

I also have concerns but I'm hoping they're addressed by midseason.

They don't really have the cap space to address anything without sending money back. This might be another 2011 season, to a lesser extent.

They are going through the motions but still getting points. I guess I kind of expected that after the long Cup run. If they are playing like this post olympics then I will be concerned but not now. They are getting off plenty of shots....they just are not finding the back of the net right now.

All I've heard since Q has been here is how the Hawks lack that killer intinct. They get the lead and then sit in a shell, it's what they do. Sure, it's frustrating as it costs us points at times but they have 2 Cups in 4 years. Let's just relax.

I don't think the Hawks go in a shell so much as they just sorta crap out a little, but then I'm taking "shell" to mean the five-men-back system the Coyotes and Panthers use to sit on leads all game.

Yea, I meant it in the "crap out a little" way.

I don't think you can really start to call anything that's happened a 'trend' until early November. Not enough sample size at this point. Sure the Hawks are clearly a better team than Carolina and it should have been over early, but the game might prove to be a blip as supposed to the rule
