No, not a sandwich place! A 23-year-old Russian about to sign with the Blackhawks.

Quote:
Panarin, 23, had 26 goals and 62 points in 54 regular season contests with St. Petersburg in 2014-15. To give those numbers some context, his teammate Ilya Kovalchuk had 55 points in 54 games. Panarin was great in the playoffs too, adding another five goals and 20 points in 20 games.

There has reportedly been a number of teams interested in his services, including Calgary, Montreal, and Toronto, but he felt the Blackhawks would be his best fit. It’s possible that’s a reflection of what he sees this team doing over the summer.

Intriguing, but the organization has not had the best luck with Russians, nor has the league had the best luck with KHLers. Alex Radulov rejoined the Predators in 2012, played great, but then Trotz didn't like him, so he went back home. Igor Makarov was supposed to be a big piece for the Hawks a few years ago. He never even came over.

Probably a Sharp replacement in name only.

Reportedly, Panarin has a clause that if he doesn't make the team out of camp, he can go back to the KHL, which in practice means that he will make the team out of camp. Sounds like the Blackhawks have listened to Dan Bernstein and are being more like the Bulls in forcing the coach to play young guys.

I think that it might be a good thing that Q has no choice but to play a few younger players next year. I'm looking forward to it.

Signed to a two-year ELC beginning next year. Not eligible to join the team, no duh.

What's also interesting is that his teammate and BFF Viktor Tikhonov might leave the Coyotes and sign with us. He failed to catch on with Phoenix back in the bad old days under Gretzky, languished in the American League, and then went back to Russia like Lisa and her bowl of gazpacho, where he's been pretty good. Might be a cheap fourth-liner.
