I still think there is a chance they could make the playoffs.

That flurry of three goals in the third makes one hope.

that sucked, they really needed to lose that game. Very disappointed in the effort.

Hawks on a pretty nice run. Unfortunately my son and I went to the game in Anaheim where they laid an egg 4-0.

Blackhawks Defenseman Kevin Korchinski Left Off Canada's 2024 World Championship Team
Smooth-skating 19-year-old D-man would have been an interesting asset on 100-foot wide international rinks in Czechia.

interesting asset?

he was brutal defensively for much of the year...the shitty play intensified as the season wore on. the overtime goal the kings scored in the last game of the season was a glaring example. why in the world was his stick in his right hand when the shooter was to his left and no attacking player was to his right? what was your stick defending?

the upside is there. great skater. his shot needs work, needs to and will get stronger.

draft lottery next tuesday....best case scenario is #1 overall, worst case scenario is #4 overall.

#3? ok. the lottery will be at 1730, tuesday, i'm assuming before a playoff game.

from what i've read, seen and heard; there's a general consensus about the drafting positions/talent tiers.

celebrini
next 2-13 picks
next 14-30

if we don't get the #1, the blackhawks close to being in the mix for 2 picks in the 2nd best tier.

my contingent #2 pick is winger demidov. heard a scout on nhl network talking about him for 10 minutes. these guys pick up on everything. said his hands/shooting/creativity are nhl quality, said he's fantastic in tight spaces. his skating is not the greatest. size is not a real issue, but, a bit on the small side.

the skating. we've all seen videos of demidov. the scout said he favors his inside edges too much, which is not optimal for an nhl player. as a result, may tire quickly during a game and will need to build up his legs even more.

demidov seems to be falling a bit in rating. we'll see.

Oops, was wrong!

I think I'd take Demidov at 2. I'd try to move up and take Buium if they can move up to 7-ish.

there was a chance the blackhawks could have gotten the 3rd or 4th, overall.

anyways, from what i understand - demidov still has 1 year left on his khl contract. an entry level salary of $900k may not be enough using a % of that to buy out his khl contract.

i'd take demidov and project him playing RW on bedard's line in 2025-26.

saw craig button on tsn, he has the blackhawks taking RD levshunov. quality RD, playing 25 mins a game. yeah...but, he may play another 2 years at mich st. and may not be available until the 2026-27 season, as a rookie defenseman.

almost a no-brainer not to mirror the penguins when they took malkin and crosby in back to back years.

Read today that Demidov wants to come to North America so there may be a way to get that to happen next year.

I wonder if the Hawks still have a Russian guy on their payroll...

i looked it up a few months ago - they have 1 pro scout based in russia. his name is semenov. considering the club's historic so-so luck (zhamnov vs. panarin) with russian non-goalies, the worm has to turn at some point. it seems as though semenov made a good enough case for the club to draft the so far-so good talent, kantsarov, #44 overall last year. i'm guessing semenov's opinion about demidov will heavily weigh on the decision for the overall #2 pick.

appears as though they have 1 pro scout for sweden/scandinavia in sundstrom and another swede (mats hallin) is their director of european scouting. considering the club's recent (10 years) poor results from dozens of nhl quality swedish/finnish available players, you have to wonder...

there are a few swedes and finns in the pipeline, we'll see if they pan out.
