STAMFORD, Conn. – May 31, 2015 – Last night’s Western Conference Final Game 7 between the Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks, in which the Blackhawks advanced to their third Stanley Cup Final in the past six years with a 5-3 victory at Honda Center, delivered overnight milestones for NBC and record local ratings for both the Chicago and Los Angeles markets.

The game produced a 3.27 metered market rating, making it NBC’s highest overnight rating for an NHL game ever, excluding Stanley Cup Final games, according to The Nielsen Company. The 3.27 overnight rating for Blackhawks-Ducks Game 7, in which the Blackhawks never had less than a two-goal cushion after taking a 4-0 lead in the second period, was also up slightly from last year’s Kings-Blackhawks overtime Game 7 on NBCSN (3.17).

Locally, the Chicago market delivered a 26.6 HH rating, its highest ever for a non-Stanley Cup Final Blackhawks game on NBC and its third-highest overall.

The Los Angeles market produced a 3.9 HH rating, its highest ever for a non-Stanley Cup Final Ducks game on NBC and its second-highest overall, trailing only the Cup-clinching Game 5 of the 2007 Stanley Cup Final (vs. Ottawa, 6.0).

26.6! Holy shit!

Hawks survived and overcame the hitting and size of the Ducks. The nu-clear option had Anaheim fucked in the head.

Lightning are a more skill and speed game which the Hawks will have a better matchup against.

Tampa has skill and talent, but I like the Hawks better in those areas. Hawks playoff road could have been much easier if not for game 3 roster switch and Nimonen on defense.

Yes in the sense that they won't be obsessed with hitting and declaring that no human can withstand them, but like I said in the prediction thread, sometimes the Hawks show up to a track meet and lose: Edmonton and Colorado have been trouble in the past. Those are just blips in a long season, though; I don't think either of those teams would win a best-of-seven (and most certainly not Edmonton!).

Again, regular season results have no relevance in the playoffs. The Hawks would sweep and destroy the Oilers and Avs in a series.

Read that in the last 3 game 6 and 7's that the Ducks have played the last 3 years, Getzlaf and Perry have a combined 6 points. Game.Set.Match.

Did you see that bracket I posted where 13 out of 14 playoff series were won by the team who won the season series?

Do you feel better now about Kane & Crawford?

No. Kane is a talented son of a gun and absolutely amazing. I know there is no such thing as clutch, but he is. I know it's not his role to go into corners and stuff like that, but it still disappoints me. When he loses the puck he just kinda makes turns like oh well I'm gonna come off now. He's the least intense hockey player ever that can make the most outstanding plays in the most important games. There is no other way for me to explain it. It's so weird.

I think Crawford is a boob with more luck and defense in front of him than skill. He goes down early and often times does not see the puck.

The same can be said for Ovechkin, but Kane is much better on defense than Ovechkin.

I did not know Kane played defense. You said Ovechkin did better this year. If your statement is true that's brutal.

Highly skilled players sometimes look like they are lackadaisical & less intense. Many of the great offensive Hockey players look like this including The Great One. Take Kane for what he is & what he does. I gave Cro a rough ride earlier in the year after his injury, but he has been outstanding since then. Every Goalie in the NHL goes down early & at times doesn't see the puck. He has been just unreal in this years playoffs.
You worried about the Hawks all year. I told you not to worry about them. The Hawks are in the Stanley Cup Finals. Enjoy it.

He's a sizable cap hit and I believe he will be one of the first guys they look to move in the offseason. It seems pretty clear that a core Bowman philosophy in the cap era is that all goaltenders are expendable.

That's probably the way it will go but I'm certainly convinced at this point given his track record he's definitely more than just a guy as a goalie . He's upper echelon . All he does is win.

Corey has the most value. I'm sure they'd love to move him, Sharp, and Bickell. I think they'll get 2 out of 3 moved. Corey for sure.

You forgot Versteeg. He's gotta go too.

I'd like to see Crawford in Buffalo. If he's there to backstop that team, things get better fast.

Could you imagine the angst if Crawford got dealt, then Raantling went in the tank?

Crawford is good. He needs defense in front of him and we’ve seen what happens when that falls apart. Not sure how Buffalo fits that bill…for cap reasons he’s one that has to go and clearly has the highest value to be moved. SHARP is next…he hasn’t tanked but also hasn’t lit it up, either. Probably some value there. Versteeg and Bickell also need to get off the books, but now you have to find a taker and not sure other teams will be interested given their seasons.

Maybe you just suck it up and buy Versteeg out: $733,333 of dead cap space this year and next if that's how a buyout on retained salary goes. But someone's gotta be below the cap floor. There's always someone. I'd target Phoenix and New Jersey.
