Good. Did not see that part.

It's probably way too late in his career for such a move, but Brent Burns has bounced back and forth from defenseman to forward and back to defenseman (tho 2nd in scoring for blue-liners in the NHL for 2015-2016), move Hossa to the 2nd or 3rd blue line pairing? Hawks need another reliable pairing on defense.

Not gonna happen, but if anyone could do it and do it well, it'd be Hossa. His ability to control the puck and to generate turn-overs. plus scoring etc. Could be quite an injection of offensive chaos via the blue-line.

I know defensemen get pressed into forward fairly often but forwards playing defense are pretty rare. Sakic and Fedorov did it on power plays but never even or killing, I don't think. I can't think of anyone who's made a full-time transition from forward to defense as a late career move.

Shaw gone to Montreal for 2 seconds round picks.
I wonder if Hawks Intelligentsia stops bitching and moaning.

No. Stan Bowman is an idiot. Marc Bergevin is an idiot. Every GM is an idiot. Every team should be run by Jen LC at the same time and if you disagree then you're just afraid of a strong woman.

I'm fine with this. Replaceable. Don't overpay for that type of player. All effort, no smarts, very little on ice talent.

He's certainly not worth the $4.5MM he wanted but to say he had very little talent is kind of shitting on him on his way out the door. I think he's more valuable than you're giving him credit for.

Frees up $$$'s/cap space to keep Ladd away from Detroit. Still have a long way to go to actually be able to fit even Ladd under the cap tho.

I was shitting on him when he was still on this side of the door. For years now. I'm no opportunist.

I'm eager to see what Ryan Hartman can bring at a small fraction of the price.

There's no way Ladd is staying here. I'd say he's going to Vancouver if I thought a Canadian free agent would sign with a Canadian team, which they almost never do.

Shaw is not easily replaceable. Such a myth simply because he lacks innate skill.

Shaw will be missed greatly.

As I mentioned before, the Ducks lost good-not-great players in Palmieri and Beleskey but paid dearly for about the first half of the season. Glue guys who come up through the ranks are worth more than their stats. Look how fucking long Detroit kept Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby!

Shaw would have been great to have at $2.75MM but not more. Again, I hope Hartman can replicate Shaw's production, but it hurts to lose Shaw.

Blues sent Hawk-killer Brian Elliott off to Calgary. Win-win for the Hawks, as Jake Allen won't be nearly as good and Elliott will suck for a Canadian team.

half-surprised the Blues didn't just hand Eliott to the Stars.

"here, this'll make it certain you guys beat us next year"

Speaking of the Stars, they just gave a three-year extension to Jamie Benn's useless brother Jordie Benn.

To #Wings
Joe Vitale
2016 1st round pick (20)
2016 2nd round pick (53)

To #Yotes
Pavel Datsyuk Contract
2016 1st round pick (16)

Wings basically dumped Datsyuk's cap-hit for nothing.

Take Datsyuk's contract out of the equation so it's just 16 for 20, 53, and Vitale, and the Wings still come out ahead. The Coyotes are a garbage organization. All they care about is charging $7.5MM to the cap without having to pay a dime because they're fucking broke.

Yotes first pick in the 1st round is from BFE [Swansea?], Illinois, and looks not a day over his 17 years:

Appears to be the Metro-East.

Having his mom stay with him up in Ann Arbor--where I think Kaner played during his high school years--seems like a smart move.

Kane spent a lot of time playing for teams around Detroit. Explains his stated desire to never play for the Red Wings.

Agreed. They're certainly not closer to winning because he's gone.

Agree with the others that Shaw was a really good player and we will miss him, but Hawks in no position to pay him $4.5M. This, unfortunately, had to happen.

They still have to find 2 defensive players...one good enough to be #4.

Taking the bullet here: apparently, Elliott asked for a trade, because he wanted to be a full-timer. Well, he got his wish, so congrats on the remaining career obscurity.
