Saad seemed like a guy you don't lose under any circumstances...like, a guy for whom you knowingly denude other areas of the team to keep. This team just became much worse.

You're right, but apparently other bad decisions from the team and its players made this necessary. That our #1 center makes $10.5MM and will be lucky to break 60 points on the year doesn't help.

Was there some pressing deadline that required them to hit the dump button?

Sharp just made himself much more unlikable...at least Spaulding may have a chance now as he will have no other friends

Free agency starts tomorrow...teams could give him offer sheets that will drive the price higher.

You are not following. He was no longer cost controlled in a sense. He was not taking the bridge and was going to come back with a sheet ($4-5M )you cannot absorb.

Maybe he was talking about CBJ with Dano.

No I will always default to CH taking stance against Hawks. See Toews shot above.
Toews has 3 fucking Cups . Just the usual CH bullshit.

jesus, even if the hawks suck ass next year and have to ice an '10-'11 pisani/potulny disaster to compensate you find a way to sign saad.

bickell - 4m/4
david clarkson - 5.3/7
nathan horton - 5.3/7

power forwards get paid. when you got one that doesn't suck ass you don't trade him. uuuuggggh

edit: i was thinking of potulny not jaffee

"He has three Cups! He has the benefit of the doubt!" Imagine if GarPax made the trade. There'd be no doubt at all!

One of the worst trades in the history of the Hawks. This makes literally no sense. Gonna tell me no one made a respectable offer for players like Sharp, Bickell and Crawford so they could sign Saad? Go fuck yourself.

Championship window officially closed and it shouldn't be. Fucking bullshit.

Just read Bob McKenzie of TSN said a 6.5M for 6 years or something was the sheet coming. Even CH has to admit that $6.5M for a 25 goal Saad is not good.

Adam Hoge tells me Saad isn't that special and I shouldn't worry.

Back to the Cubs.

Adam Hoge has shit for brains. No one cares what he thinks.

Traded a 22-year-old first-line power forward for virtually nothing. This sucks a lot. But at least we'll have old-ass Sharp scoring 15 goals and putting his dick where it doesn't belong!

I'm fully in the Dan's a douche camp, but the level of histrionics from Hawks fans on this trade is remarkable.

CH this is your time to shine man. Bitch away.

This is fucking pathetic.

I want to believe Bowman has a plan that he is working. But hard to see that now.

He was one of the best players on the team. That was not the case with anyone in the 2010 capocalypse. Ladd, Buff, Versteeg, and Madden were useful, but not essential. Saad was essential.

Would this be like the Bulls trading away Pippen in the 90's?

Sucks to lose Saad, but if the Hawks weren't going to be able to re-sign him, then they got what they could.

Dano > Saad.

And the trade gives Hossa someone to hang out with.

I don't know that there's a parallel. Not Rodman, Saad isn't a defensive specialist. Maybe Kukoc? Nah, fuck it, you can't really compare the makeup of an NBA roster to an NHL roster, especially one built around Michael Jordan.

Can I call B&B right now and say this is like trading Jordan after he hung 63 on Bird in the playoffs?

This is true. If Saad got an offer sheet, the only compensation would be a #1, #2, #3, next year. Taking Saad off the market forces the Penguins to look elsewhere, perhaps at Sharp.

This is also a long-term deal; Seabrook is up for an extension next year, Teuvo in a few years will be also. Plus they got a promising wing in Dano and a second line center who hasn't even hit 30 yet.

I'm shocked but I'll wait to see what other moves are made before going crazy.

This is like trading away Ladd. The Hawks didn't become good again until they found his replacement in Saad.

Ladd was shoehorned into a shutdown checking role. And he still chipped in almost 20 goals.
