Blackhawks would be 4th or 5th on the list of teams the NHL might would possibly rig the draft lottery for in the 2023 draft: Red Wings would be first, much longer stretch of success and broader fan base, if you're looking to juice a franchise. And the Ilitch family vs Wirtz? Maybe Montreal or the Penguins before the Blackhawks. There aren't any Bowmans left in the Blackhawks front-office, are there? Maybe Scotty's gravity could pull the lottery his way. But I thought he was retired to FLA watching Bolts games.

Kane is an anomaly, though, isn't he? I'm not saying this guy won't be good, but I'm not so sure about "dominant".

I guess we'll find out soon enough how good he really is.

No doubt we will see. But I will be very shocked if the kid is not dominant. He has all the skills and appears to be a really hard worker who is all in on being a great player.

That is One of the Great photos I have ever seen.

What do people really expect from him though? He probably isn't going to be Gretzky or McDavid or Crosby. Will you be disappointed if he's Denis Savard or Yvan Cournoyer?

I think more than the expectation it is just knowing you got the best available this year. Anything is possible. If health or the organization screws it up then so be it.

Elections have consequences.

He is expected to be the best player on a Hawks team that competes for Cups. If he is not that then he will be a disappointment.

I don't think anyone is ever going to be Gretzky.

But I don't think it is too much to expect him to be on the level of McDavid or Crosby.

He is considered the best prospect since those very guys.

He is too good to be a bust. You might be on the right track. Perhaps he won't be one of the greatest, but he could be really good like a Kane. I think he will be a better version of Patrick Kane.

Those are lofty expectations. I may actually watch part of an NHL game this season to check him out.

I think it's a lot to expect that. Those are big strong players. It's a different era and the numbers aren't going to be the same but there are sharp hockey guys who consider McDavid the equal of Gretzky.

I get the feeling Hawks fans will be disappointed if he is like Savard or Marcel Dionne or Martin St. Louis, little guys guys who are Hall of Famers. I wouldn't bet on him being better than Kane, but that's pretty fucking good.

It is just the nature of the beast when you are a the #1 pick in a loaded draft.

McDavid is not the equal of Gretzky, he will have to lead his team to some cups to be in that discussion, imo. He is great tho.

And different people have different expectations. LIke I said if he is a HOFer who leads the Hawks to compete for Cups I personally will be happy.

He's dominating the league in a similar manner to Gretzky. Unfortunately for him he isn't playing with Messier, Coffey, etc.

Wins are what matter the most. Nobody gives about individual stats.

He really is though. The style of play just isn't as wide open as it was during Gretzky's time. Plus the goalies are now the size of offensive linemen.

It's interesting to juxtapose JORR's NHL thought's here against his baseball(specifically Pitcher Wins) thoughts

I don't think so myself, but I can see how a case could be made. I'll never think Tiger was as good as Nicklaus either. You'll never think LeBron is as good as Jordan. There are legit arguments each way though.
