After my meltdown last night, I'm starting to relax about the Saad trade. It had to be done and I've always liked Anisimov while Dano has the same upside as Saad. I'd still like to see them move either the Bickell or Crawford contract if not both. If they can, keep Sharp at this point. Sample size of a decline is too small when he just lead the team in scoring the season before. I expect him to have a bounce back season this year, I just thought it would be on another team. I need to go take a look at the cap again.

2008 first-round draft pick Viktor Tikhonov, returning to NHL after four seasons in Russia, is closing in on a deal with CHI.

How do you say "How do I get to Rockford?" in Russian?

Is Dano expected to make the team next year?

From everything I have read I think that is the expectation

Brad Richards is on the verge of signing with the Red Wings, so we're still a little thin at center. We're also over the cap with four roster spots still open.

Just awful. Hawks coulda got him for cheap if they dumped a contract.

Saad sounds like he has an agent issue.

That's great. If Saad wanted to be here, then he should have been more reasonable. You choose winning or money. There was no third path in the cap constrained NHL. I hope he enjoys Columbus. His dollars will stretch much further.

Six million buys a lot of fast-casual chain dining. I hear there's a new Smashburger by one of the new dorms.

I'm seeing that the Hawks have $750,000 in dead cap space for bonus overages? That doesn't help.

There must be something going on with Saad and his agent. He was the guy in the interview after the cup saying he would give the hometown discount to the hawks to stay...

I hope he signs short term and comes back in two years.

Everyone's saying the same thing, that this agent overplayed his hand and went hard against a front office that does not tolerate that kind of negotiation. I'm sure Saad is unhappy now but will get over it when the Beej give him ridiculous money and term.

$3MM for Richards with a $1MM performance bonus because he's old. I expect what's become the typical Red Wings season:

1) old guys play above where they should be slotted, everyone bitches
2) old guys get hurt
3) guys from Grand Rapids come up
4) team plays better with Grand Rapids callups than it did with old guys
5) Grand Rapids callups beat the Blackhawks
6) old guys make their way back
7) Darren Helm has been injured and has come back three times by now
8) out in first round

I don't understand how he couldn't dictate his wishes to his agent if he is truly unhappy. Randall Cobb had to squash his agent this year when he had insane potential offers in the table. I think he took 10 mil less to stay where he wanted to be. How could Saad not have conveyed that clearly? I think he has to be to blame somewhat.

I don't think Brandon Saad has ever been considered one of America's great thinkers. He probably figures that his agent will do right by him.

But wouldn't any agent worth his salt already know going in how much the Blackhawks could offer? They know what the cap is and how much room there was. Don't he and Saad already have the sitdown with " Hey , basically all they can offer is xxxx over xxxx years. If you don't want that then you won't be able to sign here. Saad sounds like he wasn't aware of that. In his case I don't blame him for cash grabbing. He already has his Cups, get the money. Someone like Richards I think is an idiot. Already made his money, coming off a Cup, paired with and likes one of the games top players on a pretty good team. Why the fuck do you leave for a team that's going nowhere like the Wings. That's how you want to end your career?

The only thing I guess is agent was getting the illegal tips that the sheet was going to come. Or he was a bad poker player and was trying to squeeze Bowman for every ounce of the bridge deal. Oops big mistake. Huge.

Saad has no one to blame but himself. He priced himself out of Chicago and Stan did the right thing. Saad isn't a $6.5 million player. Now he is stuck in the hell hole that is Columbus. The Hawks wont miss Saad.

Antoine Vermette scampers back to the loving embrace of Phoenix, 7.5 over 2.

If they could of moved two outta three of Sharp, Bickell and Crawford then they could of resigned Richards (He would of taken less than 3 AAV to stay), Oduya and Kruger and the Hawks would still be amongst Cup favorites, even after losing Saad. With Richards gone, Oduya probably gone and who knows what's going on with Kruger, this has become a 2011 situation unless Stan pulls a rabbit out his ass.

Might need to to put 'One More Goal' on hiatus and use 'Wait Til Next Year' as our slogan. I'm not even being negative. It's the truth.

I thought Kruger was ready to resign?

Too much negativity around here. Haven't we seen this week that we have no idea what Stan will do?

Having thought about it, I'm fine with letting some other teams have a chance for a couple years. We got three Cups. Let Calgary or Minnesota have a turn. Or Winnipeg; God knows they've waited. Why not tank the whole year? Let Toews take a year to enjoy his ten and a half million dollars and contemplate the situation he put himself in. Buffalo bounced back nicely.

Man, Bryan Bickell sucks.
