Let's see ol' Mark apply "I'm truly glad they're rehabilitated, but they shouldn't be employed" to people who walk out of Cook County Jail.
Is Lazarus saying Bowman shouldn't be employed at all, or that he's not the best choice to occupy the alpha position in a professional sports franchise?
I think he had the "you don't HAVE to hire them" line locked and loaded for wherever Bowman washed up. It's too similar to how they talk about people they feel are no longer entitled to work in media.
For the record, I think it's a terrible hire for the Oilers, not just because of Bowman's role in the blowjob coverup (which was more significant than Quenneville's, who was always sort of hamstrung within the organization) but because of his last few years of terrible moves with the Blackhawks. But then the Oilers have been hiring weak late-2000s retreads for years now, whether it's Dave Tippett or Todd McLellan or Ken Holland or Stan Bowman.
