First of all, I don’t know when “riding the hot hand” became a goalie that had one really nice game. Let’s remember this: In the final 20 games when Joel Quenneville desperately needed the Hawks to gain points in the standings, he turned to Corey Crawford 17 of those times and only used Scott Darling in back-to-back situations or meaningless games.

This isn’t an ’08-09 situation when he alternated between Nikolai Khabibulin and Cristobal Huet or a ’09-10 situation where he shielded Antii Niemi with favorable starts until he ultimately turned to him. Scott Darling was an absolute afterthought and no one ever said “HEY WHAT ABOUT PLAYING DAT LOCAL GUY WHO SPENT 15 YEARS LIVING IN DA SUBURBS BUT HAS ALSO LIVED JUST AS MUCH TIME OUT OF DA GREAT STATE OF ILLINOIS, MY FRENTS.”

If Corey Crawford has proved anything, it’s that he deserves the benefit of the doubt. We can literally go down the list of times he’s bounced back from stinkbombs if that would make any one feel better. But I really don’t think this warrants that.

Tpyical Team Bernstein mentality. When your goalie is an astonishingly bad 38/47 and 6.75 through two games, who gets the hardest treatment? That's right, the fans! BRAP BRAP DIS DAT DA DA DITKA FRENTS BEARSE. Yeah, Crawford played well down the stretch, which was magnified by the fact that no one else on his team did. But this wasn't just a bad game. This was a complete meltdown to end the game. Crawford earned the benefit of the doubt going into game 2. He lost it. I don't think that's ridiculous.

It's kinda funny that their Meatball Voice is identical to Dan's.

9 goals in 4 periods is what we call back in the old country, dreadful.

You (and I) have been critical of Cro all year, and have been screaming for a change to Darling...why you pick now to support him is odd. The best thing for the future of the Hawks would be for Darling fo continue to play well, thus allowing them to move Cro to another team and shed themselves of the ridiculous contract that Stan gave him. Stan is in a real slump of late.

I understand being down on Crow, but again, his contract is NOT ridiculous. He is tied with Ryan Miller as the sixth-highest paid goaltender this season. Even considering Crow regular-season stats may not exactly back up the pay rank, keep in mind that Rask ($7M), Rinne (7), and Cam Ward (6.3) all were paid higher this year. Two of those goaltenders are playing golf/jacking off/both right now. Lehtonen ($5.9M), Quick (5.8 ), and Smith (5.7) are all sitting at home, too, and I would only argue that one of the three is a better goaltender overall than Crow. Crow may have a no-movement clause, but not a no-trade, so I am sure there are plenty of teams that would consider him a huge upgrade and happily take on his $6M.

Darling may be the guy in the future, but in two years when his extension is up, if he still is The Shit, he will be getting paid, too, and it won't be a measly 6M by then.

I'm not supporting Crawford, not after game 2. Going to Darling for game 3 is the right move. But the truth is that Crawford did a lot to keep his team in games when they either couldn't be bothered or just didn't have the requisite talent. Maybe he hit a wall after the last month and a half, I don't know.

I'm not sure you understand a no-movement clause. A no-trade clause is exactly what it says on the tin. It can be partial, where players can submit a list of teams they will or won't accept trades to. A no-movement clause is a full no-trade clause plus no assignments to the minor leagues plus no loans overseas. Essentially, Crawford can only be removed from the roster exclusively on his terms.

My bad, then - I thought "no movement" was mostly waiver-related, and not as restrictive as "no-trade". Still, if the team wanted to move him, I would think they could get it done via "we'll make him an offer he can't refuse...".

Great. A penalty with 2 left. Hawks already have a disability when it comes to late goals.

Overall a good period minus the brain fart that led to the goal. Should have this game if they can keep the offensive ehat on.

No they don't. It's just a morgue in there whenever the Hawks aren't leading. I speak from experience and my own participation in the collective pout of live Hawks fans.

Decent period, once again lucky to be tied. Hate to say it, but there's just way more talent on their team than there is on ours, and that's with Viktor Stalberg dragging them down. We're really going to have to scrap this one out.

You could tell when the goal was scored. Even the music was quiet.

What was going on with the camera earlier? Kept zooming in and out. It was like watching public access.

Rinne is going to singlehandedly win a game before this series is over.

Oh, FFS - give the Hawks their due - they actually were the better team that period. Shut down the two power plays, and actually had more SOG. Not once were they on their heels like they have been quite a bit during each of the last two games.

Game might be tied, but the Hawks were the better team. Not by much, but they were.
