I think they are grooming McNeill to be the replacement Kruger in case they aren't able to retain him due to the cap after this season. If Kruger is somehow able to remain long term, then McNeill is fired off in a trade.

Either way, after having years of no center depth, I have to love the current situation at the position. I think the days of Shaw playing as a C are done and thank God for it.

Uh oh. Saad had 8 points in 3 pre season games with CBJ. I guess CH can answer this best but did the Bickell signing end up costing them Saad in the long run? Ill hang up and listen.

I guess it wound up doing just that, didn't it. Can't speak for the rest of the roster, but Saad-Johansen-Foligno is going to fuck and murder the league.

Exactly why i think this roster is actually an upgrade over last year. Nothing wrong with Dano at 20 yrs old to be in Rockford. It's also not over yet for Bickell....someone may end up needing him as the season starts.

I like this season already.

Early scouting reports on Gustav Forsling (from Vancouver for Adam Clendening, who in turn has since been traded to the Pens) are quite promising.

Here's the explanation of the Pokka/Svedberg/Rozsival shuffle from someone on reddit who gets LTIR better than I do:

Scenario A:
The Hawks are at a cap hit of $71m with Svedberg on the roster. They then place Roszy on LTIR. The Hawks now have an effective cap of $71.6m and can spend up to that.

Scenario B:
The Hawks are at $71m cap hit with Svedberg on the roster. They recall Pokka, and send Svedberg down. This puts them at a $71.4m cap hit. They then place Roszy on LTIR which allows them to have an effective cap hit of $72m.

I didn't use the accurate numbers because it makes it more difficult to explain, but that's the gist of it.


Could be that Rozsival is just a dummy contract for the purpose of flouting the salary cap and will never be asked to play. The league doesn't have a leg to stand on if that's the case; they're letting the Coyotes carry Chris Pronger on LTIR with no intent to play so they can hit the floor, the other half of the NHL salary cap.

It wasn't make-believe at all. His leg spontaneously combusted in Game 4 against Minnesota last year. He still hasn't recovered.

He is on first line with Hossa and the captain. You miss the news yesterday? Q actually was on Goff and Spiegs and said he was very happy with his defense too.

Pretty much that. Stay at home, don't fuck up. Might get some minutes with Keith if Q uses a 4-7 pairing, but then you're looking at Trevor Daley and a rotation defenseman and AHHHH

I'm excited that there's been quite a bit of Q-proofing to this roster, though I've never thought Q handles rookies as poorly as others do (the only young guy he really whiffed on was Pirri, and even he might just be hoarding points on a punchless roster because someone has to). I think the division is highly competitive and that the Hawks can finish anywhere from second to sixth, but realistically third or fourth. However, if they stop giving a shit halfway through the year as they like to do, things might not end well for them.

Ultimately, probably out in the second round, perhaps beating Minnesota in the first round just to keep piling on.

Take your pick, there's actually 3-4 of them on the first 2 pages of the main board. TSN panel named him the 2nd best player on the planet so all the HF posters who don't understand there's more to hockey than scoring PP points are having their heads explode. This happens every time someone posts a list or a comment from the media or a former coach, GM, player and that list inevitably has Toews rated as one of the top 2-3 players in the game.

I think this is exactly what they did. After seeing his injury in the playoffs I figured there was zero chance of him being back for this season, yet he got signed. This makes a ton of sense.

Q-proofing is definitely a necessity. What gets missed is almost all managers / head coaches need the same protection. Very common to overvalue veterans whose game has passed them up.

CH is right but being his dark cloud self....that's ok. We should be scared of Anaheim. The team will likely go through a stretch where they get lazy. what we can hope for is there's less drama, death, and stupidity. A healthy Patrick Kane for the full season will also be nice.

As I've said before, Sutter and Laviolette are pretty much the only two coaches who don't drive people mad with a veteran addiction, and Sutter doesn't because he only does Dean Lombardi's bidding à la Art Howe with the A's. Laviolette seems to be purely meritocratic, but also a giant pain in the ass. I'm sure "stop playing crappy old guys" is the #1 complaint about every NHL coach*, in large part because hockey fandom has been obsessed with draft picks and prospects for years, partly because of the importance of cost-controlled players to the salary cap but also because that kind of stuff is the province of people who go in deep as fans.

*An exception other than the two aforementioned would have been John Tortorella, where the #1 complaint was "stop coaching in the NHL forever."
