Well, it's up to Toews to tell people. There are HIPPA laws. It's against the law for the Hawks to say his problem even if they know. So don't blame the Hawks in this case. If Toews doesn't want to say, then he doesn't want to say. I have no problem with that.

I just heard from a source who is very close to the Hawks that that's what it is. There's a lot of smoke on this from a lot of different people who don't know each other.

Look, everyone is hoping Toews will be OK and that whatever he is going through is not a serious long-term issue. You don't have to be a hockey fan to understand that.

You just have to be human.

There's some scary speculation as to what Toews is suffering from, but thankfully, Blackhawks general manager and president of hockey operations Stan Bowman said it's all not true.

Everything remains status quo -- Toews is still dealing with an undisclosed illness and wants to return to the Hawks when healthy.

"He seems to be trying to get himself back to where he can rejoin the team, but as far as when that would happen, he doesn't even know," said Bowman, who is in touch with Toews but is also not hounding his superstar on a daily basis. "It's not like we have information that we're not sharing. It's a situation where it's just the great unknown when he'll be feeling ready to play hockey again. ...

"I've found over the years when players are not with the team, the best thing to do is to give them their space; not to be bothering them regularly like, 'How are you feeling?' Just knowing Jonathan the way I do, when he's ready to come back, he'll be back."

If it's true, you wont have to worry about lawmakers banning youth contact sports...you will be having parents pulling kids out of the sport in droves

Would Toews be the most famous athlete to have this since Lou Gehrig? The fallout would be terrible, not just the fact of a young man being struck down in the prime of his life, but an incredibly popular one, someone that at one point was a top 3 player in the game.

they just showed Toews on NBCSN congratulating Kane for his 1000th game. He looked healthy at least his neck up. Hope he gets better.

IMO the video did not prove or disprove anything..I just really hope he doesn't have it.

The video just looked like any other cell phone shot video by a hockey player away from a rink so yeah nothing to read into it other than his "see you soon" sign off.

It makes me sad for him. I can understand him not wanting the attention, him being private, or whatever but the people in this city would be hugely supportive. I think that might be good in some ways.

Toews is that type of guy. He doesn't want people to know. He's a quiet guy that pretty much keeps his personal life private. He doesn't like attention. At some point he'll announce it. I don't know if support of Hawks fans matters to him. It wouldn't for me. It's nice, but I wouldn't want to talk about it just like Toews has decided to do. I'd just want my family and friends to support me.

Have they made strides with ALS? Or it can't be cured? I have no idea.
