2-2 after 1 period. Blackhawks have given up five (5) power play goals in 4 periods this year. They are hard to watch right now as they learn to jell.

i know that having song lyrics in hawks game thread titles used to be a thing, so in the spirit of that i'll toss out a song that doesn't technically have lyrics, but the title of it totally works for this game tonight:

gavin bryars - raising the titanic (big drum mix)

sinicalypse, do you have the Gavin Bryares/Philip Jeck/Alter Ego remix of The Sinking of the Titanic, the source of that afx remix? Quality ambient for sure.

Curious Hair, no i don't have that laying around but i'm of a mind to pull it up on youtube right now because you suggested it. ha when i looked it up the first result said "Producer: Brian Eno -- Written By: Gavin Bryars" so yeah, i reckon this is some sort of ambient standard cuz mr. "music for airports" is pretty much the father of ambient music afaik.

personally i can't really get into ambient that much... call it the ADD/ADHD (aka "what's left of the human hunter/gatherer instincts" per thom hartmann) or just call it not having a good enough weed connection at the impressionable age/s where i was first getting into electronic music and essentially defining my "electronic music anima" (if you don't mind getting a bit jungian here) -- whatever the case, it usually worked out that my favorite ooh-ey/ahh-ey ambient stuff eventually led to somewhere a bit more straightforward/four-to-the-floor

idk, to me ambient music is like a bicycle without wheels. yeah sure on some artistic levels it's stimulating to behold; it really gets you thinking and you'll ponder the infinite possibilities of existence and all that good stuff-- but eventually you wanna go somewhere, you know what i'm saying?

ON TOPIC: is it just me or does tonight feel like a loser's point type of night for the hawks?

With Backes gone, James Neal has become my most hated player in the division.

What a piece of shit.

This is about next year. Anything positive is good but with the cap you can not compete every single year. Hawks have done way more than the NHL would like to see 1 team do the last 6 years. Maybe they get some mojo going sometime this year and sneak into the cup playoffs but its really about next year.

They won't be as good as they have been but I just want to watch the game. Maybe enjoy it a little. I don't want to read how they suck all year all the time.

I have enjoyed both games probably more than most games last year. I would rather watch them develop the next wave than bitch about shitty roszi and tvr and hossa and guys who won't (hopefully) be around after this year.

Go get Mike Richards to kill penalties right damn now. There's not a hell of a lot he can still do in this league, but he can do that. I can understand the learning curves on our rookies, but with guys like Tootoo in the lineup, we're willfully bad. Good to see Toews has nine penalty minutes and one assist in two games thus far, by the way.

36-28 Nashville in shot attempts, which, given how Nashville always seems to have the puck, could be a lot worse, but it's 20-11 Nashville in the on-goal column, and that's bad.

You just basically said the penalty kill sucks so who you crappin, Spaulding? I just mentioned the lack of talent. I'm not sure what your issue is.

They're not going to be great but they're not going to completely suck all year either. They're average.

Okay. I took your comment as you were going to do here what you were doing in the Cubs thread the other night.

The original Sinking of the Titanic is more of a 20th c.-classical aleatoric composition, where the composition is essentially modular and the performance is ultimately left to chance and the individual whims of the musicians. It's certainly not rip-roaring romanticism, but I wouldn't classify it as true ambient per se, either. It has more in common with Cage and Reich than Eno, in my opinion. I happen to love all three, of course. The Jeck remix from '08 has the electronic elements that I feel you need to go from minimalism to ambient.

They had possession but Kaner and Seabs fucked off for so long that they started to run out the clock and then 2 clears and its over. They had chances but some of the passing wasn't clean and they acted like they had 5 minutes.

Well, at least it shouldn't be too hard to point to the problem in today's film session. 3 PP goals, all carbon copy point shots from dead center blue line.

On the plus side, I thought the team looked about 10x better than they did against St. Louis. Schmaltz in particular really looked like he is starting to find a little confidence out there. Forsling has been a revelation in the transition game. Hossa looked very sharp. Kane and Toews continue to play well with nothing to show for it on the scoreboard, although at least Toews does have an assist. Panarin has played well other than finishing, which is kind of a big part of his job.

Keith still shoots way too much when he in on the PP. I'd prefer if he not shoot at all unless there are no other options.

Lines are a mess. Panik experiment was a total failure. Anisimov is killing line 2 with his inability to win a draw.

3-1 Hawk after 1.

I'm watching the Cub so I don't know what the hell's going on in this one, except that the Hawk have Darling in goal and 3 goals on 8 shots...

The Hawks may have better defensemen, but they don't have better defense. Halfway home and the Perds have 37 shots, 21 got through. I suspect some alarmingly bad Corsi figures in the bottom six, maybe even top six.

Richard Panik poached Marian Hossa's 500th goal and added another late for the hatty. Good morale-builder of a win, but running up the score at home on Marek Mezanec isn't really indicative of much.

I would really like to see the Hawks scrape the bottom of the barrel for some veteran projects, because I don't feel great about three rookie forwards + Rasmussen. Mike Richards as a PK specialist is exactly what we need. Bowman should be on the lookout. Motte and Schmaltz belong, but let Hartman and Hinostroza thrive in the AHL and prove themselves to be better of solid veterans. I don't know why the Hawks didn't do this in camp with a great number of veteran players available.

Umm is there even enough coke in the city for Tootoo and Richards?

I don't mind Hartman but Vinny doesn't do it for me yet.

Hinostroza is good for a couple of cancelled icings and that seems to be about it. Legs with no head.

Incidentally, Jack Skille, the Hinostroza before Hinostroza, did get a one-year contract with Vancouver, so he continues to hang around the league being fast and dumb.
