Hawks are off to the rusted-out anus Barclays Center where the Islanders are dead last despite being, as erstwhile Isles broadcaster Howie Rose would say, "Gary Bettman's strange conception of .500." That's the kind of lousy year we're having: the worst team in the East has as many points as games played. They replaced Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen with done-as-shit Andrew Ladd and, uh, I don't think they even signed another guy remotely commensurate with the guys they let go. I guess they were hoping Dal Colle and Ho-Sang would take a big fast leap? I don't know.

Did you know Barclays can't keep its ice frozen because the pipes are made of PVC and not copper? What a mess. They can't draw for shit because no one who works and lives in Nassau/Suffolk wants to go into Brooklyn and back for a game at an arena that's too expensive and doesn't even let you see half the ice. There's an out clause after five years and rumblings that they'll build a new place in the Mets' parking lot or at Belmont Park, so hopefully they're out of there as soon as possible before they waste any more years of John Tavares's life.

Kempny's back in, van Riemsdyk stays in, Forsling and Rozsival sit. I'd like to see Campbell get off-days here and there when we can afford them.

Go Hawks, go Islanders, though I must admit being in 16th place on December 15th pretty much means their season is finished, strange conception of .500 notwithstanding.

fun game, those first 3 goals by the Hawks were all awarded top style points.

First 3 pucks Seabrook touched turned to goals, unfortunately 2 of them were for the Isles.


Hartman struggled the other night after his promotion, but looked great last night.


As for Toews, I can't tell if he has lost his instincts for offense or if he lost his desire to play offense, but there's definitely something fucked up about him. Not attacking the net with the puck, lots of hesitation and some bad decisions. Someone needs to remind Toews that he is an elite offensive player in the league.

Elite two-way centers/captains who worked harder than anyone and played far more physically than their frames would indicate, damaged by playing through injuries and further diminished by descent into drug use. The game chewed them up and spit them out but at least both guys gave us everything they had. The only difference is that Toews will necessarily continue to hang around despite the fact that his days as an elite player are finished, whereas Richards got busted at the border with a suitcase of percocets and the Kings used this to cancel the rest of his contract. Maybe John McDonough will arrange for a drug bust in one of the NHL's more Republican states when the time comes to be rid of our thirty-point pothead.
