Lots of rumblings and rumors going on with the Hawks right now. Marc Bergevin left to take the GM job with the Canadians and they've promoted Norm Maciver to take his place.

That's just the start of it though, lots of talk that Q's time with the club is just about over. Few factors with this. The first being that Marc and Q were extremely close and Q might leave to head to Montreal. Second, it's not a big secret that Stan and Q never seemed to mesh. Their hockey philosophy and opinions on players seemed to differ often. Usually when a coach and GM quarrel, the coach loses.

My thoughts on Q potentially being out? I'm fine with it. Not happy, but not upset. Q is a good NHL coach, there's no denying that. Looking at his track record though, his teams have a reputation of under performing and borderline quitting on him. The cup winning team will probably go down as the best top to bottom to win the cup in the new salary cap era. Almost harder not to win the cup with that team and they only really played two solid weeks of hockey.

Inconsistent play has been the calling card for these Hawks under Q's tenure. A new coach can hopefully change the mentality of the club. See the Kings and Blues. I'll always like Q and remember him fondly for helping bring a cup back to Chicago, but I'm not going to be upset if he's not the coach next year.

I hope Q is gone. For two years, I was sick of his non-stop line shuffling, that by the way, never really worked. We have not seen too many guys get better under him (Kane, Keith most notably), and the power play was an absolute joke. I can't take another underachieving year.

So if Q leaves, who do you guys want to get the job?

The coach of the Canucks. If anyone knows how to manage playoff expectations, it's him.

Good fucking riddance is what I say! He sucks, I'm not even willing to say he's a good coach. He's a bum who got himself one of those Phil Jackson championships where you sit on your ass taking a nap on the bench while the dominant roster assembled for you goes out there and does all the work.

I say fuck him right in the other ear!

It all adds up to GTFO!

doesn't change the fact that Q sucks.

It wasn't Bowman's decision to sit Hayes and play the geriatric guys on a nightly basis, that's all Q.

PP is all on Q.

Lack of fire and the passion is all on Q.

Quenneville is an above-average NHL coach who was the best available when the Hawks were being coached by a guy who didn't really know what he was doing. Between his roster decisions and his loyalty to an absolutely terrible lieutenant in Mike Kitchen, I can be convinced that he has overstayed his welcome. I'll still need to be convinced that Mike Haviland or Barry Smith or Mike Eaves will be better.

This statement is funny.

He is 7th all-time in wins. And the NHL isn't exactly a young league.

and where does he rank in losses? Or win %?

Need to see more info before I give him kudo's for being highly placed in the "stuck around a long time" list.

It's hard to get upset at Quenneville when he's had shitty rosters for two years and still managed to make the playoffs in both.

And yes I said shitty rosters, because while this team has some nice names, those names have not played like stars, and the bottom half of the roster has been garbage. I really, really hope that the team doesn't over-indulge in "gritty old vets" again because clearly it's a poor investment. Stop dicking around with guys like Morin, Saad, and Beach. If they're able to skate, bring them up and let them mold. If they don't work out, then whatever, but I'm tired of pussyfooting around the issue with our prospects. If Morin and Saad played to their full NHL potential and this team was able to shrewdly acquire a 2C/mold Kruger into a non-vagina then the hawks could be a powerhouse.

Defensively, I'd say you give Duncan Keith one more year to prove he's not been totally castrated. Olsen is the Kruger of the defense (guy who could be good but always seems to come up lacking) and Leddy had a shit season. O'Donnell was a total bust and LePisto couldn't win over the coaching staff. Montador's contract basically earns him another season to turn it around, but otherwise they need far superior depth. Having those young guys is a risk, but I think the light may come on for them sooner than people think.

The key for all of it is special teams, and honestly after another off-season if they come out of the gates ice cold on the penalty kill, you start firing people. I don't care how buddy-buddy Q and Kitch are, there's no more time to twiddle your thumbs when you're o-fer on the PP game in and game out.

He's also won at least one Prez trophy and a Cup. And he could easily coach another 15 years+.

Pretty good winning percentage overall, one Cup in 15 seasons, and only missed the playoffs twice. Not outstanding, and better than pretty good; however, it's not the record or the accomplishments, it's the trend.

Having no control over his destiny, I'd like to see what he can bring for the upcoming season; if it looks like the last two, then so long.

Indeed I did. Out of the 'core' he's the most expendable/get the most back. Not necessarily saying I would move it, but would be silly not to be shopping him around a bit.

They're not trading Sharp before the season. If the team sucks and there's a pickup to be made at the deadline he could go, but not before.

Well, there's yer problem.
The goaltending in the playoffs wasn't really the big problem, not putting the biscuit in the basket was, but the goaltending was a huge issue all season long so the last several years.

I would quite dig Parise on this team. If that means bye-bye to Sharp, or certain others, then there you go.

The only possible way I'd see them moving Sharp before the season is if it means getting a big name goalie, and I don't think that's going to happen.
