First home game of the year and it's with the idiot Blues, who looked like world beaters against the Red Wings. Now that they have a chance to win it all, they're not as knuckle-dragging as they were, but they'll still beat the Hawks in the physicality department, no trouble. Lot of talented youth. In addition to worrying about Pietrangelo and Shattenkirk at defense, now we have to worry about Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko up front, who to hear from the rest of the people around the league is already the rookie of the year. Gulp. Perron and Sobotka are each always good for a goal a game against us.

Jaroslav Halak gave up three goals in under 40 minutes last night and was pulled. Hard to say whether Brian Elliott gets the start and begins his inevitable regression to the mean. For us, I'm guessing it's Crawford tonight and Thursday with the Stars, and then Emery gets a shot at redemption on Saturday night with Columbus, but boy oh boy is he running out of shots.

I don't want to look at the season stats from last year because St. Louis's goals against was just sick so let's just skip over that. What's past is past!

The Blues are really good and are on everyone's list for Cup contenders.

The Hawks went 4-2 vs them last season including 3-0 at home so they actually match up quite well against them. Another great test for the Hawks early in the season.

I gotta get around to getting an updated hockey game for the Xbox .... I have no idea who is where, and admit that I had no idea St. Louis was worth a dog's dick. I am ashamed.

What has helped the Blackhawks so far is that teams that rely heavily on discipline and teamwork--such as Phoenix and to a lesser extent LA--need much more time to jell and for new players to buy into the system. This season really swooped in on horseback for a lot of people. Meanwhile, a team like the Hawks can go forth with their "we have Toews, Hossa, Kane, and Sharp, do you?" system and flourish. The Ducks are doing the same with Boudreau allowing Selanne & Friends to more or less freelance it, and hmph, same 2-0 record and +5 scoring differential.

I expect things to even out, but if the Hawks can exploit this inequity during their early, road-loaded part of the season, that puts them in a great position.
