CHICAGO (CBS) – The Chicago Blackhawks bolstered their depth at the goaltender position by acquiring Jason LaBarbera from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for future considerations on Saturday.
LaBarbera will be assigned to the Hawks’ AHL affiliate Rockford IceHogs.
The 33-year-old goaltender posted a 1-3-0 record in seven games this season with the Oilers with a 3.28 goals-against average and .870 save percentage.
LaBarbera has a career record of 60-73-19 in 182 career NHL games for the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, Phoenix Coyotes and Edmonton. He won the AHL’s Most Valuable Player during the 2003-2004 season and has twice won the Baz Bastein Trophy for best goaltender in the AHL (2003-2004, 2006-2007).
